It's also dipping into revisionist history, the outcome wasn't known yet. There were periods of bad polls, but by the end it was a true tossup, in the polls, Silver's model, GEM's model, etc. it wasn't clear that it was necessary to take the huge risk of publicly distancing herself from Biden.
