Philipsburg — As Sint Maarten commemorates the 15th anniversary of 10-10-10, Prime Minister Dr. Luc Mercelina has praised the extraordinary resilience of the Sint Maarten people, affirming that even amid the passage of Tropical Storm Jerry and the challenges of building a young country, the island’s strength and unity continue to shine through. “Today, we celebrate not only a milestone in our political history but the unshakable spirit of our people,” Prime Minister Mercelina declared.

PHILIPSBURG -- NAGICO Insurances proudly hosted Shadow Week, an initiative established by the St. Dominic High School, to give students firsthand exposure into the professional world.  As part of their Career Guidance Program aimed at helping students make informed decisions about their future paths, three (3) students from their institutions, temporarily joined the NAGICO team in our IT and Claims Department.

Traffic Check  Sint Eustatuis -- On Friday, the 3rd of October, a traffic check was conducted on Father Van Tevelen weg on Sint Eustatius. During the check, eight cars and one scooter were checked, resulting in one fine being issued for driving without a valid insurance. A scooter driver received a warning for riding without a helmet. The KPCN will continue to carry out checks at various locations on the island and warn all road users to ensure they have the necessary documents in order.. It is very important to comply with traffic rules and thus contribute to safe traffic on the island.

GREAT BAY, Sint Maarten (DCOMM) – Friday 10 October marks World Mental Health Day around the world under the theme, “Mental health in humanitarian emergencies.”  World Mental Health Day serves as a powerful reminder that there is no health without mental health, the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Thursday. This year’s campaign focuses on the urgent need to support the mental health and psychosocial needs of people affected by humanitarian emergencies.

PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten - The Court of First Instance on Thursday convicted C.F. for grooming a minor. The former school bus driver was found guilty of engaging in sexually-oriented online conversations with a student, and attempting to arrange a meeting. The case began after a complaint was filed with police in September 2023, supported by WhatsApp conversations of a sexual nature between the suspect and the victim.

PHILIPSBURG — Prime Minister Dr. Luc Mercelina has announced the closure of all non-essential government offices on Friday, October 10, 2025, as a precautionary measure in anticipation of the expected impacts from Tropical Storm Jerry. PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten – The Ministry of Public Housing, Spatial Planning, Environment and Infrastructure (VROMI) has issued a formal General Stop/Removal Order for parcels of land located at Soualiga Drive 16, Pond Island, Great Bay. Thursday, October 09, 2025/N118 SINT MAARTEN (GREAT BAY, (DCOMM) – Tropical Storm Jerry will pass approximately 75 miles from Sint Maarten early Friday the Meteorological Department of Sint Maarten (MDS) said on Thursday morning. On the forecast track, the center of Jerry is expected to pass near or to the northeast of the country overnight tonight into Friday. MDS in its updated forecast says a flood watch and a high seas warning will be in effect as of 6:00 PM today until further notice.

…TROPICAL STORM WATCH IS IN EFFECT…  At 11AM the center of Tropical Storm Jerry was located near latitude 15.9 North, longitude  59.1 West or about 305 miles southeast of St. Maarten.   The system is moving towards the west-northwest near 18 mph (30 km/h), and a northwestward and northward motion at a slower forward speed is expected today through Saturday. On the forecast track, the center of Jerry is expected to pass near or to the northeast of St.

CAY HILL -- On Saturday, October 25th 2025, St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) will host its annual breast cancer screenings in collaboration with the Positive Foundation and the Elektralytes Foundation. Philipsburg — The Honorable Prime Minister of Sint Maarten, the Honorable Dr. Luc Mercelina, officially received the 2024 Annual Report of the Social and Economic Council (SER) during a presentation ceremony held at the Government Administration Building. The report was formally presented by Mr. Harlec Doran, Chairman of the SER, and Mr. Gerard Richardson, Secretary-General of the SER. The document provides an overview of the Council’s work throughout 2024, including its advisory opinions, consultations, and socio-economic analyses aimed at strengthening Sint Maarten’s policy and decision-making processes.
