wanted to see how double's 3d model looked with lineart (we're going for a 2d+3d mix for #PILOTONE). also doodled some halloween costumes to pad things out!

fun fact: when you look at their 3d models from a lower angle they look like they're doing kitty faces. :3

pi is one of many earthlings designed to meet the requirements of a cryo-pilot (a pilot that undergoes cryogenic preservation to complete their mission). the government association she works for is at best, morally grey, but she honestly isn't much better.

narratively, double IS pi's quality of life upgrade, so i thought it'd be cool if you had to use him to unlock blueprints/task automation/etc. pi's already a pro but double, a new consciousness of sorts, seemed like a better character to anchor a skill tree to.

was gonna get caught up tmrw but inspiration hit (pose + outfit is a reference to needy streamer overload). even though the game mechanics will be different, nso inspired some parts of #PILOTONE, namely watching the protag ruin their life over the course of a month.

pilot, whose head is bleeding, wears a gold headset backed by spikes and a halo, as well as white and gold robes. she stands with her arms out in front of a deep blue sky with seven moons. an overlay, obscured by a static texture, features several blurry pop-up windows containing random life support devices. the drawing is titled "holiday".

an early idea for a ship maintenance task: calibrate light. keeping it lit = bonus to sanity + plant growth, keeping it dark = jumpscares + save energy. not sure if having control over the dark makes it more/less scary but it sounded like a cool idea visually.

pi is genderqueer! double is made of her unsurfaced traits. she's stoic+reserved+crowds out frivolous thoughts of self-expression with her career. meanwhile, her double is expressive+exuberant+masc, all counter to who she's been taught to be.

pi and double stand in front of a calendar which features a photo of a cat hanging off a tree branch, titled "HANG IN THERE". the month is thursday 2220, the days of the week are all thursdays, pi is polishing a gold chain "thursday the 20th" necklace, it's thursdays all the way down. double yells "FUUUCK!" while pi says "get used to it." pi has long pink tinted hair and expresses herself more effeminately, whilst double is a bit more masculine.

the 6 stations on the ship are built to be worked on from any angle (so plants can grow in different directions, screens can rotate, etc). we're testing out a 3d rotating environment to make things claustrophobic+disorienting, hopefully w/o motion sickness. :')

pi plugs into her ship in order to maintain vitals.
current gameplay idea: pilot the ship as it passes dangerous stars + repair damage caused by harvesting energy from those stars. maintain the ship like an organ whilst consuming it like a parasite kinda thing.

pilot's a bit inspired by my mom. since escaping to canada from post-war vietnam she's had to balance her love of her home country with her gratitude for getting to leave it. pi feels similarly conflicted about earth.

despite making pa, i don’t consider myself to have made a real horror yet. sure, it had gore + zombies but the game wasn’t meant to be that scary. hoping i can get more horror exp with #PILOTONE.

(full blurb is on tumblr but to summarize): i thought it'd be cool if double was unaffected by real world physics (in this case zero-gravity). it sorta just looks like he's floating lol. either way i had fun working in some mini ui designs we'd been developing! :b #PILOTONE
