Excited about Animales finally opening a permanent spot.

In addition to being really good BBQ, which we need more of in Minneapolis, owner Jon Wipfli has been a Gleeman and The Geek supporter and even helped host one of our live events.

Can't wait to go. www.startribune.com/roll-out-the...

It hasn't been obvious because the raw dollar amounts are so much higher now, but the Twins' payrolls the past two seasons have been equal to Metrodome-era spending relative to MLB as a whole.

And now the worry is the Pohlads' spending will go even lower: www.nytimes.com/athletic/668...
State of the Twins’ payroll: What salaries are on the 2026 books? More cuts coming?
Thanks to clean 2026 books, the Twins' front office could have ample offseason spending room if the Pohlads don't slash payroll again.

My breakdown of where the Twins' payroll/roster stands going into the offseason, including:

- Guaranteed salaries
- Dead money
- Contract options
- Arbitration projections
- Trade/non-tender candidates
- MLB-wide payroll context
- Derek Falvey's comments

NEW: State of the Twins' payroll

Includes salary projections for the entire roster, what Derek Falvey said (and didn't say) about next year's payroll, non-tender and trade candidates, dead money ranking highly, and a sad comparison to the Metrodome days.

First time in Yankees history they've allowed 10+ runs in back-to-back playoff games.

Twins fans deserved to see so many more Jhoan Duran entrances during night playoff games. What a shame.

Blue Jays brought Louis Varland into a 2-1 game with the bases loaded and two outs.

He struck out Giancarlo Stanton with a 101 mph fastball.

A great season wasted: The numbers behind Byron Buxton's career-year for the 92-loss Twins

My ode to a healthy, thriving Buxton having a spectacular all-around season amid the chaos of a team that crumbled around him: www.nytimes.com/athletic/668...
A great season wasted: The numbers behind Byron Buxton’s career-year for 92-loss Twins
Not even a healthy, thriving Buxton could save the 2025 Twins, but he deserves credit for a spectacular all-around season amid the chaos.

Hmm. Suspiciously similar to @johnbonnes.bsky.social talking about a shaky pitching performance.

New podcast!

There was a *lot* to talk about after Derek Falvey's season-ending media session, only some of which involved the firing of Rocco Baldelli.

Rocco Baldelli was hand-picked by Derek Falvey in 2019. For the past seven seasons, Baldelli served as Falvey's manager and collaborator. And then Monday, in being fired, Baldelli served as Falvey's shield.

I truly think Shohei Ohtani is the greatest baseball player of all time, and I'm more and more convinced it's not especially close.

I don't think I'll ever get used to someone with 53 homers doing this too.
