Any company whose mission is to “to ensure that artificial general intelligence benefits all of humanity” would be ecstatic about a capable open source model like Deepseek released.

Any company which has a mission of making money off closed-source models would be devastated tho.

I'm currently looking for a new fit remote, Android development contract role.

I have over 15 years of Android development experience, and bring lots of positive energy to the team.

Although I'm based in the UK, I'm set up to work for companies based anywhere.

I have immediate availability.

Macrobenchmarks can be the most efficient tool to measure Compose migrations to move forward confidently. We use them heavily at Disney for several things, including to ensure frame times stay good when migrating isolated components. Measuring scoped migrations under realistic context is priceless 🎄

Oh damn. I didn't know this was a react native app. As a historical (and still!) proponent of native app development, this app is a great representative for react native!

this one took ~20 minutes. did it together with Claude (i directed it, fed it clues, and gave it the relevant source code. it found the likely mistake and suggested a correct solution) github.com/bluesky-soci...

This is honestly one of the most annoying things. My wife and I complain about this regularly when trying to find our conversations in Photos. We love the app otherwise, but this is dumb.

You can send photos to another account directly via Google Photos, and it creates a conversation with that person within the app. Sending is easy, but how do you find the conversation later?

Profile Pic > Photo settings > Sharing > Sharing Activity > Conversations > person name

Did you know that Queensland Australia conducted a systematic review of gender affirming care for trans youth and found it safe and effective? The NYT and other media did not cover it because it contradicted their narrative. It's called selective bias.

I couldn't agree more. Accessibility is one of those aspects of development that often get overlooked, but the impact it can have on improving people's experiences cannot be overstated.
Completely agree, and it should be part of the design specs too. UX is UX.
Accessibility shouldn't be an afterthought in your app, it should be your top feature.

Simple tweaks can have a hugely positive impact on people’s daily life.

Turn on TalkBack/VoiceOver for a few hours, you’ll learn SO much.

My new year's resolution will be to get better at this

It's easy to think every #dev should maintain a blog, contribute to open source and have multiple side projects on the go.

You can be passionate about tech without doing any of those things.

Android 15 enables edge to edge by default for all apps. If you’ve not been taking care of insets properly you’ll need to do it now.
