Looks like intensive advising may b e more cost-effective than financial aid. Turns out guiding students through complex college choices might be more effective than giving them money and setting 18 year olds loose on the world to make consequential decisions: www.nber.org/papers/w3392...

I shared this article before I read it; having now read it I can say it's an incredible piece of work, something that should be read in basically every intro to quant methods course in education. Just a total tour de force on something I've always believed but lacked the technical skill to argue.
Heterogeneity in treatment effects is real, but too often the heterogeneous effects found in one study do not replicate. A great primer here on how to think about this problem and what to do about it: edworkingpapers.com/sites/defaul...
