One of these days I hope to graduate to doing this without using the staff. It’s a tough move and definitely not appropriate for everyone. #startwhereyouare #agingshouldntsuck

Mobility is too important to take it for granted. If this is impossible for you, I’d encourage you to work with your physical therapist to find a doable alternative. #startwhereyouare #agingshouldntsuck

Mobility plays a large role in how aging feels. The good news is that regardless of age or current strength and mobility status we can improve where we are. I’m not going to insult you and suggest it’s easy but it’s doable and for me it’s definitely worth it. #startwhereyouare #agingshouldntsuck

Exercise helps us build physical resiliency but it also boosts our mental resiliency. I’m tapping in to that this week. #startwhereyouare #agingshouldntsuck

This doesn’t look like it should be hard but my hip flexors were adamant that it was more challenging than I thought it was. If you try it, please let me know how it goes for you. #startwhereyouare #agingshouldntsuck

How we tackle exercise today will have an enormous impact on how aging feels. And if aging is already roughing you up it’s never too late to get started doing something about it. #startwhereyouare #agingshouldntsuck

Strength and mobility don’t usually announce that they’re leaving. You’ll swear that they were there just a minute ago but they snuck out months or years ago when you were taking them for granted. Do the work. #startwhereyouare #agingshouldntsuck

Balance and leg strength are so important that it makes sense to spend some time working on them. #startwhereyouare #agingshouldntsuck

Things happen that we don’t have any control over but there’s so many things that we influence if we’re willing to put in the work and be deliberate. It’s important to start making deposits into your strength & resiliency account while you can. #startwhereyouare #agingshouldntsuck

How hard could it be? I’m just raising my leg but it feels like it weighs 100 pounds. I wouldn’t start off with something this high. If you’re going to try it start with something 3 or 4” tall and build up from there. #startwhereyouare #agingshouldntsuck

I like anchoring the TRX straps to the pull up bar that I have in the backyard but there’s also a door anchor so you can move the workout in doors. #startwhereyouare #agingshouldntsuck

The first time I used TRX straps was years ago in PT and it’s a regular part of my PT programs with John, but it also a helpful home workout resource. #startwhereyouare #agingshouldntsuck

This one is 2fer. It gives your core some work because you have to brace yourself to keep from being pulled over and it also works you biceps. 3 sets of 10 are great but start where you are. That might be a single set of 6 but keep the weight manageable. #startwhereyouare #agingshouldntsuck

This one is not for everyone. It puts demands on you feet, hips, knees and balance, so if you have any hesitation, I’d skip it. Every time I get something off of the bottom shelf in the kitchen I’m glad I still do this one. #startwhereyouare #startwhereyouare

Exercise should challenge you but it shouldn’t injure you or leave you feeling wrecked the next day. Find an exertion level that works for you. #startwhereyouare #agingshouldntsuck

There are times that exercising with arthritis is uncomfortable but exercise has also helped me with pain management. I’ll defer to your doc & PT to help you decide what is appropriate for you. #agingshouldntsuck #startwhereyouare

Thank you! This video 4 years ago changed my life. I was struggling with feeling relevant and this video sort of took off and introduced me to a lot of people struggling with their strength and mobility. That convinced me to post daily exercise snacks. Thanks for all of your support!

I don’t know what the percentages are but at least 50% of folks over 65 have some degree of arthritis. The secret is to find safe ways of exercising that help you get stronger. The worst thing we can do for arthritis is to stop moving. #startwhereyouare #agingshouldntsuck

I had my shoulder replaced in January and love it but glad that a surgeon talked me out of a knee replacement years ago. It’s possible I might need one someday down the road but for now mine’s playing along. #startwhereyouare #agingshouldntsuck

Hearing from folks about their mobility challenges is what convinced me that I needed to post an exercise snack virtually every day. That was about 4 years ago and I am so grateful for all of your encouragement and support. Thank you!

It’s essential that we find ways to exercise that are safe and doable. Exercise should challenge us a little bit you shouldn’t feel wrecked the next day. If you haven’t exercised in a while, start with your doc to see if you have limitations or restrictions. #startwhereyouare #agingshouldntsuck

I used to think that physical therapy was all about light resistance bands and stretching. I like John Longoria’s version a lot better! #startwhereyouare #agingshouldntsuck

You don’t have to spend very long doing balance drills before you appreciate how much of a leg and foot workout it is. #startwhereyouare #agingshouldntsuck
November 21, 2025 at 10:33 PM
We can improve our balance with practice. Start by just balancing on on foot and as you get better at that you can increase the difficulty by using a balance pad. I like doing it beside a wall or a counter for supptof needed. #startwhereyouare #agingshouldntsuck
