Done. Still not great in Japanese. Characterization is much better, story largely makes more sense. Time compression still feels like the writers didn't know what it was themselves. The timeloop also just kind of doesn't work.
Ending is a massive overreach and corny.

Considering the amount of games I went in feeling very mixed that ended up becoming massive favorites of mine... Yeah, Kojima's definitely onto something here.
MGS2 being a major one. But also Morrowind, PSO, Demon's Souls, Gungage.
Lot of good can be found in games if you push past initial unease

Keep thinking about this term "pre-digested" that Kojima used to describe art that's instantly gratifying. And how it's better when people grow to love something instead.
I've gravitated, as player and designer, toward the latter, but that term "pre-digested" is new and feels very strong.

Found out that apparently NFTs are still a thing in some circles. I guess it makes sense, *especially* now that the sensible people have moved on from the topic you're left with the types who fall for these scams. Anyone engaging this late is an easy mark.

Apparently people really just mail order illegal fireworks through the regular mail carriers in unmarked boxes.
You'd think after the big fireworks incident last year, people would tone it down but no. That level of intelligence and compassion does not exist in this country.

I really bought new RAM three days before prices blew up and stayed up.
If I'd bought it week later, like I actually intended to at first, I'd have paid double the price.

Oh yeah, I see how this original text led to the stilted words in FF8's opening. That text is in English too in the Japanese version, meaning the original staff likely did this before localization got involved.
Not that the game's localization is particularly good, mind. But it is better than that.

It's not that she guesses he'd say it. She intentionally drives the conversation to a point where he'd essentially go "... My bad."

FF8 is a game that will tell you to prepare your party and reminds you to set your junctions. Then two screens with no encounters later disables a chosen party member, forces you to change parties and set new junctions.

Noticing a trend in pacifistic ideas up in FF8. There's the town that hates conflict and isolated itself. Rinoa became desperate to find ways to end the conflict without combat. Squall respecting those ideas, but still believing there are moments you *have* to fight to stand up for yourself.

Furthest I got with this game. Never cleared it.
My disc 1 stopped working when I was near the end of it back in the day. Continued at a friend's place, taking my memory card there. Got to the Garden fight on Disc 2. Left it in my pants pocket one day.
That's how my memories got washed away.

If you think I'm exaggerating about Squall's "..."s and "Whatever"s replacing actual dialog a lot. Legends of Localization briefly skimmed over it and found a ton of examples.

Watching Makai Tenshou. All I knew going in was that this was a major inspiration to Fate/stay Night.
The movie opens on a character named Shirou being the sole survivor of a massacre. (To make it better, this Shirou is a historical figure who championed Christianity, Shirou Amakusa)

To add to this, Squall is fascinating in Japanese. His speech pattern is different depending on if he's talking as a representative of SeeD, a party member, or his internal dialog.
