Hey Firefox users.

Screenshot from a Tumblr post by ralfmaximus: Mozilla, in its finite wisdom, embedded LLM bots into recent versions of Firefox for the vitally-important purpose of… naming tab groups. Now, some users are noticing CPU and power usage spikes caused by a background process called Inference.

Ugh. Reminder again for Firefox users to visit your about:config page, search for the browser.ml.chat.enabled key, and set that to false:

If yours says true then double-click it until it reads false.

Doing that turns off the AI chatbot features in Firefox, but also the stupid new LLM tab-naming feature that's rolling out

Just for perspective, a few weeks ago roughly 100,000 turned up for the London Trans+ Pride march. By contrast fewer than 3,000 ACROSS THE WHOLE COUNTRY, have turned up to anti-asylum "protests". Yet we are meant to take the latter as "the voice of the people" and the former as "the minority".

One thing I'm loving about the Horus Heresy marines is how all the greebles and accessories are *optional*. More choice for building, more choice for painting, easier to make them "your guys" - just a superior method of miniature design overall compared to modern 40K.

if you know someone with a sizeable following, you could probably get 3000 or more people to contact visa and mastercard and very politely ask why their company is allowing an apparent hate group to brag about tricking them into killing legitimate businesses

The fucking head of fucking XBox Graphics used a fucking "AI" slop image to hire new engineers but couldn't tell that the fucking screen on the fucking monitor is facing backwards.

Linked In post from Mike Matsel, Principle Development Lead, XBox Graphics:

"The XBox Graphics team is hiring folks with experience with device drivers, GPU performance, or related validation or engineering system experience. If the positions are closed and you want to apply, please message me!"

And below it is an "AI" slop that reads in white on green "XBOX GRAPHICS IS HIRING" and an image of a woman in a green sweater wearing earpods typing on a computer, except the "AI" has put the screen on the back of the monitor.

And this isn't even taking into account skill atrophy: right now we have skilled coders who were trained without relying on AI, but what happens in 10+ years when the next generation of coders come along who have relied on AI and lose the eye to tell the difference between good code and crap code?

We ran a randomized controlled trial to see how much AI coding tools speed up experienced open-source developers.

The results surprised us: Developers thought they were 20% faster with AI tools, but they were actually 19% slower when they had access to AI than when they didn't.
