Many working-class Washingtonians juggle paying for housing, transportation, education, and on top of that, job training. Supporting workforce development programs allows workers to have the skills they need to obtain high-quality, good-paying careers, without falling into massive debt.

We must find new pathways to build safe and affordable housing. Whether that’s creating more homes near public transit or creating prefabricated housing, I am a strong supporter of increasing the supply of housing to lower the cost of rent in our community.

As a direct result of President Trump's Big Ugly Bill, almost 300 jobs will be cut from Providence Swedish's First Hill, Cherry Hill, Ballard, and Issaquah hospitals and clinics. These are not the only layoffs we've seen in our health care system in Washington state in recent months.

Earlier this month, I sat down with local experts for a food insecurity roundtable to discuss the impacts of SNAP cuts, demand for services, and reduced funding to purchase food. Hunger should never be weaponized in our country, and I look forward to continuing our work to bring food to the table.
