Here’s Walt Bond, another 1950s KC Monarch (1956) who had 20-homer power (20 HR & 85 RBI for Houston in 1964). In this 1967 Topps card, he’s a strapping 6’7” and 228 pounds. By September of 1967, he had died of leukemia.

Aw man, RIP George Altman. After appearing with the 1955 Kansas City Monarchs, he finally made the majors in 1959 with the Cubs. He was an All-Star in 1961 (.303, 27 HR, 96 RBI) and 1962 (.318, 22 HR, 74 RBI, 19 SB). He hit 101 homers in a 9-year career. He was 92 years old.

This is Diomedes “Guayubín” Olivo. He made his major league debut with the Pirates at age 41 years and 277 days. He pitched three seasons with a 3.10 ERA (126 ERA+).

He is the all-time winningest pitcher in the Dominican League, going 86-46 with a 2.11 ERA.

His brother Chi-Chi also played in MLB.

Didn’t really have much in the house to cook tonight. Ended up throwing a bunch of stuff in a pot and calling it tacotato soup.

And holy shit the reviews from the kids are in and it’s good.

What’s in the pot? Check the alt.

This is Urbano Lugo Sr. and Urbano Lugo Jr.

Fun Venezuelan baseball fact: Baudillo “Bo” Diaz caught a no-hitter by Lugo Sr. on January 6, 1973. 14 years later, he caught a no-hitter by Lugo Jr. on January 24, 1987.

(I don’t have this Lugo Sr. Venny… yet.)

Thrilled to share the first phase of some design improvements we’ll be making across all the Reference sites. We don’t take change lightly. We know familiarity and comfort is very important to our users. So I walked through the process in this blog post. www.sports-reference.com/blog/2025/11...

I’m not gonna lie, I think @jmiloch.bsky.social and I did great work here. I’m very proud of it.
Sports Reference's @adarowski.bsky.social joined @jmiloch.bsky.social's Pod of Fame this week to discuss Fernando Valenzuela's HOF candidacy, his unique pitching delivery, and where he ranks among the 1980s players featured on this year's Veterans Committee ballot.
