On the other side of the neighbourhood wall that I run along, there are a couple of citrus trees that still have fruit on them (even after the freeze.) Easily within reach of an enterprising person. Really, they shouldn’t go to waste if the owners aren’t going to harvest them. [2913] #AirWreckRuns

These days, I have a rest/cheat day once a week, the day after a longer run. The run on the next day is surprisingly hard to motivate myself for. I feel really lazy on those days. Motivation was easier with consecutive running. [2912] #AirWreckRuns

I’m very annoyed: If I drive some distance so I can do a run designed to get me more @CityStrides coverage, it is criminal if the Garmin decides to silently not work for 2km causing several streets to be missed. [2911] #AirWreckRuns 1/2

I had a goal to run 200km in January. I did 230km. Not enough to be of use in the January Battle: www.januarybattle.run/memberlist/4... but a reasonable goal. (I used to be in the top of that group before fatherhood.) [2910] #AirWreckRuns 1/2

The locals are claiming it is very dry here. (59% humidity when I ran.) But I’m still remembering Edmonton where you stepped out of the shower and were dry within five minutes without using a towel. [2909] #AirWreckRuns

2.5 km away from home. I’ve passed this area dozens of times. And I’m sure that that high-voltage transmission tower was not there a couple months ago. Checking Google though, it’s been there for at least five years. Dementia happening early. [2908] #AirWreckRuns

The Ballast didn’t bring a stick with her today. Instead she just bounced up and down in the chariot. Which is arguably worse than the stick: it prevented the ride from being a smooth glide. A jerky stroller is harder to push. [2907] #AirWreckRuns

I checked out a (usually gated) cul-de-sac to see if I could hop the bayou behind it, possibly finding a new trail. That did not work out. Deeper water than I would be comfortable wading through. [2906] #AirWreckRuns

I actually had to dress for the weather today! Long pants; long shirt; even a headband. A blustery 3°C. No snow though. It had been threatened, but it never showed. [2905] #AirWreckRuns

2°C for the run today, in wet conditions. (Standard Vancouver weather.) I felt a lot of solidarity with any other runners that were out there. I saw ducks, Greek statues, and while running through a graveyard, there was an old fashioned hearse. [2904] #AirWreckRuns

Before my run I was with the Ballast at the playground. Two local women were trying to get their children to leave, complaining that they were getting cold because a winter storm was coming. Me, trying not to laugh, in shorts, t-shirt, and sandals. Comfortable 18°C. [2903] #AirWreckRuns

A flower run. I picked these flowers to show because I don’t think they will be around for long. A winter storm is heading this way and landscapers have covered up a lot of the other plants. These ones are naked and defenseless. [2902] #AirWreckRuns

I was surprised to see evening fog; makes for spooky pictures. Usually fog only happens in the morning, but I guess a 93% humidity changes the rules. I’m also surprised I didn’t see any frogs. I expected that if it is that humid, they would be swarming everywhere. [2901] #AirWreckRuns

I ran to the daycare to pick up the Ballast. Outside, a little girl loudly told her father, “That man has a belly button.” (They’re on to me!) Yes, I was shirtless, but I put one on before going in. [2900] #AirWreckRuns

A long Sunday run: 16km. Felt better today than last week; probably from more nutrition before the run. Saw a Texas snowman. Afterwards I sated a craving for fried chicken, by going to “Cluck Clucks” a Canadian chain, with only one location in all of the U.S. It was really good! [2899] #AirWreckRuns

Into the woods again today. Paranoid about feral hogs though. I was surprised by a snorting ahead of me; immediately thought the worst. But the unseen mountain biker had chosen to blow his nose right before he came around the corner. Terrible timing. [2898] #AirWreckRuns

The Ballast’s stick today had branches on it. So when she waved it around, I was worried about getting a pointy piece of wood in my eye. I saw other pedestrians giving us a wide berth as well, so there may be benefits to this. [2897] #AirWreckRuns

In the dark of night I came across the roadkill carcass of a feral hog. A big one too. I wonder if it is one of the ones I saw on Sunday. Poor boar. (No pictures because I don’t want to show dead things here.) [2896] #AirWreckRuns

Today’s run felt really good at the start. I felt that I had gotten past the ugliness of the previous two days. Then 200 metres in I realized I had a tailwind that was not going to be helping me soon. Rest of the run proceeded as normal. [2895] #AirWreckRuns

After having a single day off from running, it was very hard to motivate myself to go running today. This is why I like consecutive running; I know how to manipulate myself to stay healthy. Due to my poor attitude, I punished myself by going slightly further than usual. [2894] #AirWreckRuns
January 14, 2026 at 4:55 AM
I did the hardest thing I could do for my run today: I did not run. I am going to take a recovery day. Since I’m not keeping track of consecutive days, this is now allowed. I still feel like I’m letting myself down though. #AirWreckRuns

18km run. Longest I’ve run in over a year. And it increased my coverage of Sugar Land by 1.5%. However, my body was not ready for it, so I’m feeling oddly cold. (It IS a cooler day.) That’s a low mileage for organ failure. I could also nab a free trampoline. [2893] #AirWreckRuns

In Texas, the animal most responsible for human injuries are feral hogs. So when the running trail took me into a sounder of them, I stopped. I let them leave peacefully, making sure not to get between any momma and her piglets. [2892] #AirWreckRuns 1/3

The Ballast insisted on having her favourite stick with her while I did my run. Fortunately she didn’t drag it on the ground. But let’s be honest, it is a very nice stick. [2891] #AirWreckRuns
