9. What's an editorial hill you'll die on?

Viva the oxford comma! There are also some meanings of words that have changed that make me wince (I'm looking at you, "literally"), but generally I'm pretty flexible. Language changes and evolves.

Not every turning point needs explosions or heartbreak. 💥 Sometimes it’s a bad craft fair, a wardrobe fail, or an awkward slip that changes everything. Small drama, big growth.

8. What's something your clients don't see behind the scenes?

My weird hours. 😆 I sometimes work in the middle of the night because my sleep schedule is unusual.

Nice! I liked Mistborn a lot, but my favourite Sanderson is Skyward.
aealexander.bsky.social
Four key questions to answer in EVERY scene of your novel:

1. What does the protagonist want?
2. Why do they want it?
3. What will happen if they don't achieve their goal?
3. What is getting in their way?

#Writing #WritingTip
Use these four elements to keep readers engaged: goal, motivation, stakes, and conflict. #WritingTip

7. What is your editing philosophy?

Edits are suggestions, not a set of rules you HAVE to follow. It's my job to point out issues and give ideas for solutions, but the author can always tackle a problem from another angle.

4. What made you want to become an editor?

I've always loved stories, and I was the person everyone asked to edit their essays in school. When I realized I could work in the genres I most loved (fantasy and sci-fi, in particular), it was a no-brainer.
