Its somewhat academic and field-specific approach aside… This article may interest many involved in the #ttrpg space – including game masters, players, and designers alike... Among other things, it speaks to the nature of "role" playing, and may help with player immersion and engagement. Cheers!

... Worthy conclusion to a worthwhile thread, imo. I commend it to you.
I'm pro-union because I think workers should organize to balance the power that business owners have in various negotiations. It's true that unions have been weakened, but it's not because of multiculturalism. I would argue, it's because people seek to exploit divisions for their material interests.

Old news, still true:
The new Android ≠ Good

#google
@newsfromgoogle.bsky.social

For example,
- Cropping in Photos app now with less functionality and worse UI
- Mobile phone autorotate = yes please. Autorotate in Phone app (i.e., the one you use to call ppl) = No thank you.

I think, "press your luck" games are ones, like Farkle, where players can continue rolling dice for better game outcomes, with the risk of worse ones if they press their luck and fail to score on a roll. // Then, I think, the game also overlays a "leave your bummers behind" game mechanic...

Agreed. One of the great things about ttrpg systems is, for me, their apparent self-awareness in how they loosely model an emergent game world…

Now, if only "real" world politics, economics, sociology, psychology, news, and science, et al. could regularly remember as much.

Stay thirsty, my friends
What I love most about rpgs is that it's hard, maybe impossible, to remove the sincerity.

Designers can keep one foot outside, hide behind sarcasm, or try to professionalize or optimize it as something else—but it will always be playing pretend.

And I like the work that knows that's a feature.

Also, love the maths of two dodecahedrons with binomial distributions.
And, it might be nice to hold a character as a hand.
Will I play this game? Unlikely.
Would I? You bet.

I'm disappointed by all this talk of #debate, as if it ever helped anyone agree. That's not in its design or makeup.

Debate is a formal argument. And, arguing doesn't help.

Ppl hang their hats on the formality of it, as if bare civility alone can help ppl agree. It can't.

It takes empathy too.

In future, we might all be more alive to "sentience" ideally w/ reduced bias from our everpresent species-goggles 🍻 we're wearing… Cheers!

As may be relevant for interactions with AI, alien life, other species here at home, and so-called "Intellectual Property"*… But, I digress…
