It blows my mind how many Swifties call me insane, a hater, weird, quote Actually Romantic, all for *checks notes* noticing Taylor has been wearing a wig/topper.

Swifties are the single biggest thing holding back analysis of Taylor’s work & it’s rich that they think what they’re doing is sane.

I knew there was an awful lot of wigginess going on for this album promotion cycle, but save a couple of her Directorlor recorded moments that we can’t precisely date, it was hard to find anything tha...

I think a LOT of folks realize subconsciously that these songs are shaking their faith in how they view her and the meanings of her songs and instead of sitting in that discomfort and shifting how they view her, they're just lashing out.

It's like how our bullies knew we were gay before we did, lol

I understand & respect the desire to “not hurt anyone” w/ art but it’s impossible to make art that makes a difference w/o causing some harm. If peaceful protest worked we wouldn’t be here.

Unfortunately: eggs need to be cracked to bake cake.

By adding a veneer of fiction & a layer of separation between issues that caused fierce debate irl, Star Trek allowed people to discuss subjects that could be touchy due to the trauma of many people involved.

I think Taylor recognizes that is one of her roles: to help facilitate these talks.

We use celebrities as avatars for the discussions we are often too emotionally impacted by to discuss directly at face value.

We say, “I think Taylor’s gay” to mom when we want to say “I think I’m gay,” to see how the conversation goes.

there’s also the Star Trek angle of handling current events.

The broader point though is that we are collectively powerful — Taylor starts these discourses with the goal of tapping into OUR power.

She uses her celebrity persona to hold a mirror up to our most problematic behaviors and values. The subsequent discourse is actually shifting the Overton window

Honestly … yeah. And I believe this is her entire game, too — she knew what discourse her word choices would cause, and now there’s a counter discussion unfolding around that exact point. Collectively everyone is wasting energy on the wrong fucking thing.
