South Africa: John Steenhuisen, the Minister of Agriculture and leader of the Democratic Alliance (liberal|centre-right), has announced he will not seek reelection as party leader.
The next leader of the DA is scheduled to be chosen at the Federal Party Conference in April of this year.

Libya: Saif al-Islam Gaddafi (PFLL, left|conservative), a frontrunner for the postponed presidential election and son of former leader Muammar Gaddafi, has been shot and killed in Zintan, as confirmed by his political advisor.

Burkina Faso: The junta has dissolved all political parties. The government said the decision ‌came after findings showed the previous multiparty system was a danger to social cohesion.

Burkina Faso: Former Interim President Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba (*) was detained upon arrival in Ouagadougou after his extradition from Togo. The junta has repeatedly accused Damiba of a role in reported coup plots.

Mozambique: Former Prime Minister Luísa Diogo (FRELIMO, centre-left), who served from 2004 to 2010, died last week. Diogo — the nation’s first woman prime minister — served under presidents Joaquim Chissano and Armando Guebuza.
