Next Saturday Oct 18, millions of people across America will join together to send a clear message: We the people have the power. Find your local event today and raise your voice for the science, facts, and truth we need to counter the authoritarian overreach of President Trump and his enablers.
Trump/Miller are abusing the power of the fed govt: rather than solving problems for Americans they are trying to silence the voices of those raising those concerns. That’s not democracy. www.reuters.com/legal/govern...

@rweingarten.bsky.social: Even when we may disagree - as long as it is nonviolent and non-inciting, we have a responsibility to defend peoples' rights to free speech and assembly, and to our way of life. Our members deserve nothing less. And that's why we're having tonight's webinar.
@rweingarten.bsky.social: we understand as a union how important these rights are. And as a union who represented people during the McCarthy era, who represented Albert Einstein, we understand we have to defend peoples' rights to imagine and speak freely. This is a pillar of democracy.

@rweingarten.bsky.social: What we saw was a lot of escalation of hate in the aftermath of Kirk's assassination. Instead of providing educators & workers guidance in the time after, we saw doxxing, suspensions and firings. That's not justice, that's intimidation.
@rweingarten.bsky.social: In the aftermath of Charlie Kirk's horrific assassination, we've seen that tragedy be weaponized and used to crack down on speech.
Let me be once again be clear: Violence and hate must always be condemned. Political violence is unacceptable, and we must work to deescalate.
@rweingarten.bsky.social: As a union we're here to educate folks about what our rights & responsibilities are. Especially in this time, we wanted to talk about how we speak up and stay safe, how we protect each other, and how we ensure more freedom for all - whether or not we agree with that speech.

Kent Wong was the best of our movement. He was a trailblazer for labor, immigrant, civil, and human rights everywhere he went – in California, the House of Labor, and all around the world. My heart is with his family and the generations of workers touched by his life and legacy.
