Also, in your ghost towns video this week, you pointed out that the Internet makes ephemeral communities...and this is also solved by interconnectivity and network independence. Ex: BlueSky is close to making it so communities can spin off an instance with a little tech experience. /4

If you have interconnected communities that have a more personal say in norms, where TALKING about behavior and having a conversation of what is/isn't cool happens, that's a way for the discussion to be shaped in a way that makes civil interactions the norm that much faster. /3

An important part that resonated with me on today's Dear Hank and John is that the path to improving the social Internet means making antisocial behavior...cringe. Part of that is the slow work of education and time, but part of that can be empowering community moderation to enforce social norms. /2

@hankgreen.bsky.social in regards to how social media's kind of bad for us (latest Dear Hank and John, the Pizzamas videos last week), there's at least a partial solution in interconnected communities that aren't platform dependent? Folks are working on that here, and it's pretty cool. /1
