This is pretty shitty. The indiest of the indies were the ones actively repping Mack for years, and A24 sells out like this.

On the one hand I ordered so much cool stuff from one of my international art wholesalers that they've opted to rush the delivery for arrival to this Friday (it usually takes six weeks).

On the other hand, there's no room in the inn right now!!

Somebody didn’t realize the store was just trying to be polite, and tried to dance around saying, “we don’t want YOUR book.”
meanwhile, threads is still an incredibly stupid place

It’s the time of year I get to tell people who ask if we have a frequent buyer program, “Not if you have to ask.”

Of all the things EBB inherited from its former incarnation & kept, as a general rule not playing holiday music is possibly my favorite.

"It's okay, some people just have really basic tastes," is my favorite response to somebody who brings back a book I recommended asking for an exchange.

The international waiting lobby at SFO always strikes me as so anticlimactic.

Omar El Akkad : One Day, Everyone Will Have Always Been Against This - Tin House
In late October 2023, weeks into Israel’s bombing of northern Gaza, the novelist Omar El Akkad retweeted a video taken by a Gazan man. This video showed a lifeless moonscape with endless empty streets...

I sometimes think about the customer who got really exasperated with me when they kept asking if I’d read such and such bestseller novel, and each time I said No. “Well, what you read, then!” she cried.

“We’re not ready for the answers to a lot of our questions.”

I’m asked more often than I’d like if I feel threatened by the renewed highly capitalized growth of Barnes & Noble. So let me say again: no.

As similar as they might appear, B&N is not trying to do what I do, and I’m definitely not trying to do what they do.

The World Cup is going to be (& has been in recent memory) an unseemly mess, but goddamn I'm happy Scotland is going to be in it.

This is not a terribly original observation, but the speed of e everyday life — from cars to computers — seems to make the most banal shit in the world, probably even your day, an emergency. Shit can’t be healthy.

Much ballyhooed (by me only) holiday catalog is basically finished! Is it a time efficient thing to present 300 some titles in 50 pages? No, I suppose not. But I’m neither subtle nor shy, & times a’ticking whether you pay it mind or not.
