Was just at a neighborhood school at dismissal. Hundreds of people with whistles surrounding the school and stationed down every block making sure ICE doesn’t snatch anyone. The same is happening at all the schools around here. I love my neighborhood and I love Chicago.

I strongly recommend Cory Doctorow's book Enshittification. (Note: I am a Doctorow fan.) I think he goes a bit off track in the Bad News/Good News section, but hey, maybe I'm wrong. It's worth reading for sure.

JUST IN: The Republican Mayor of Fairbanks, Alaska’s second biggest city, lost re-election last night to a Democrat.

Mayor David Pruhs is a conservative who fought protections for LGBTQ+ residents; he made comments this year drew condemnation this year from Alaska Natives. He lost to Mindy O'Neall.

It took two tries, but I am reading The Siren's Call by Chris Hayes, and I am hooked. Excellent book. Dense, so it's a slow read, but superbly written so it's worth the time. Lots of footnotes, for those of you who like that.

The very first statute authorizing domestic use of the military during domestic emergencies, enacted in 1792 by a Congress full of the same folks who wrote and ratified the Constitution, expressly provided for judicial review in certain circumstances *before* the President could even send troops.

If it were already a violent fascist regime, there would be no point in voting - the vote would be manipulated, eliminated, or falsified. It isn't quite there yet, so we think that voting will bring us closer to what we remember as a democratic state. We will see...

Agents detained her when she showed up for final green card appointment—a process that lasted years & cost $16,009.
