2025 Reading Thread!! 🌈📚
I love the kind of yearning that’s written into Hazelthorn.

🌈📚
Ngl I knew compound fracture was gonna be an emotional one just from the author’s note at the beginning, but chapters 5 and 6 are rough.
Anyway if you actually read through all of that then congrats! Read diverse books! Don’t let them take that from you!
3. And I don’t want to forget all of those graphic novels in there. They were important in helping me build back up my reading habits at the start. I made a goal this year to get back into reading them because they’re a valuable part of shaping a reader.
2. If I had never tried audiobooks, my numbers would be lower. I found out that audiobooks work well for me, and they’re an incredibly important part of the book community. They make books accessible.
1. Diverse books help encourage reading. The number might never have gone up if I hadn’t realized that queer people could be main characters in books. And not just tucking a few diverse books in amongst the rest of things. Having enough that they’re visible is important.
So my total (non-graphic novel) book counts looked like this:

0 - 2 - 9 - 3 - 2 - 11 - 19 - 76 - and then currently 83.

So what’s the point in looking at all of these numbers? What do they mean?
Now it’s 2025, and my goal is to read 100 books this year. And how am I doing with that? I finished book 85 today! And there’s been 2 graphic novels in that total.
In 2024, I hit a new high that really inspires me to keep reading. I didn’t read any graphic novels, but I read 76 books that year. That’s when I began to wonder if I could push myself further.
In 2023, I read 20 books, with 1 of them being a graphic novel. That’s still an increase in total books read, which is super good.
In 2022, I read 14 books, with no graphic novels. So we’re seeing the increase again.
I would like to make a note here that the very first audiobook I listened to was I Wish You All the Best by Mason Deaver. I’m so excited for the upcoming movie.
In 2021, I discovered audiobooks. I mean, I knew they were a thing, but I didn’t realize how much of a thing they were and how much I needed them. I read 11 books that year. No graphic novels.
In 2020, the world got weird. I managed to read 2 books and 2 graphic novels. Most of my time was spent watching tv shows tbh.
In 2019, I regress a bit. I read 7 books, and only 3 of them are not graphic novels.
In 2018, I read 24 books, with 9 of them not being graphic novels. That was a decent increase in total books.
In 2017, I read 2 books and 5 graphic novels (and by graphic novels I will almost always be referring to the volumes and not the individual trades). That was a new high from the 0 total books I had been reading over the last several years.
For me, The Love Interest was the first queer book I read. Outside of graphic novels, that is. Not that those aren’t books, but I want to talk specifically about non-graphic novel books rn.
In 2017, I discovered queer books. Specifically, I discovered queer young adult books. Not side characters in books, but queer main characters. My wife (fiancée then) and I decide to get The Love Interest by Cale Dietrich and we both read it. 🌈📚
For reference, during my high school years I mostly only read for school. The books I did read were the House of Night series and the Mortal Instruments series. So that was 2009-2012. After that point, I took a reading hiatus.
Now let’s discuss books in a more general sense. I was an avid reader as a child and began to taper off as a teenager. Now that I’m an adult, it took me some time to get back into reading, and I’d really like to share my progress.
This is abt specific books but I was so certain that The Spirit Bares Its Teeth would be my favorite AJW book but tbh I loved Hell Followed With Us even more
Okay I wanna talk books! So this thread will be about books and reading. First thing I wanna say is this: I’m nearly 30 books behind in posts and idk if I’ll catch up here. Instagram is where I post for the most part. But now let’s get on with it!
I’ve been seeing a lot of ppl on TikTok saying the kinktober list is outrageous this year and then I go and look at it and it’s all stuff I expected to be there. I’m tired of purity culture slowly creeping back up in society.
