Jeongin worries about the effect this is all having on Chan. Days have passed, and things have only gotten worse. Jeongin watches from the side of the large, open room as Chan sits before Minho, who is collapsed against the wall, chest heaving in heavy breaths, cleaning his wounds. Most are self inflicted from the few ways Minho has been able to get at himself; some come from the demon itself, twisting Minho’s body into horrific shapes; others still come from the chains or the excruciating exorcisms Chan and the others try to perform. For a moment, Minho seems lucid; Jeongin knows—they all know—this will only last for so long. “Ch-Channie…” “Ssh, I’ve got you,” the man murmurs, his brow tight knit in concern as he wipes away blood from Minho’s neck. “We’ll get you out of this, Min, I swear.” “It’s hurts,” their voice breaks. “My head…there are so many things in my head. It tells me so many things." Minho lets out a broken sob. "I don’t know what’s real, hyung.” “This. This is real, Min. I’m here with you. We’re all here with you.” “I'm sorry, hyung. I know I fucked up, but please… Please let me out.” Chan's face twists with anguish. “You haven't done anything wrong, Minho—nothing. But…you know I can’t. I know you know that.” Silent tears roll down Minho’s cheeks. “Please. I just… I just want to go home.” Even from where he stands, Jeongin can make out the wobble in Chan’s lip. “I know, baby. I know. You will, soon.” “Hyung…” “Yeah?” “My soul is bound up in it. It belongs to it. We are one. Can’t you see that? I’ll never go home—I am home.” Chan sighs and moves away as Minho lets out a dark cackle. “You’re not going to get them, demon.” Chan looks so much older to Jeongin in these moments, like the toll of this is aging him years each day. He mutters something, something Jeongin wonders if anyone else hears. "I love you, kid, more than I’ve ever loved anyone or anything…so I will save you, one way or another.” The room darkens and everything begins to shake as if an earthquake is coming; bottles rattle in their cabinets, the shelves themselves threaten to fall over, and Jeongin is nearly tossed to the floor. Minho writhes, their body contorting in their bindings, the chains binding their wrists and ankles clattering against brick and cement. “You think you can contain me, human? You think these pitiful excuses for angels and this worthless demon can keep me bound forever?” Minho eyes are black and his chapped lips pull back as he bears his teeth in a wicked, sickening grin. “I have been hunting for such a powerful conduit for centuries,” the demon hisses, the sound not unlike shards of glass rubbing together, “and I have finally found it. I have killed countless pathetic mortals and worthless demons to get to it—do you think I will let it go so easily? What will love do for you when this body contains so much power?,” the demon sneers. "Where was love the first time Minho and I met, hm? Will you abandon him again, Chan?" Minho laughs maniacally. "How does it feel, hyung, knowing you left him out in the cold to die—left him for me to consume?"
