When I bounce ideas off ChatGPT, I sometimes worry it’s just echoing my own thoughts.

So I ask: “Can you point me to papers that explore these ideas?”

And then it sends me a bunch of paywalled articles.

How is it that the AI has "read" them, but I can’t?

Bummer.

Would anyone attending #cppnorth be interested to have a birds-of-a-feather about alternative system languages like Rust, Zig, Odin etc.

I don't deserve the credit. I googled for a relevant example and found the Godbolt link as part of this HN discussion: news.ycombinator.com/item?id=3190...

The point being not to rely on a zero-page trap. Dereferencing nullptr is undefined behaviour so the optimizer can elide it.

During the course of the penultimate solar sojourn, I re-watched this scene from Blackadder. Such mastery of this post-Norman tongue— it's fair to say the writers deserve our most enthusiastic contrafibularities!

Déformation professionnelle:

At the UPS store, the clerk asked me for “an ID.”

Programmer brain: ID = Primary Key = Unique Identifier for the shipment.

I start scrolling through my phone for the tracking number.

Clerk interrupts: "I just need an ID with your address on it"

ID = ID card

D'oh!

Cool tech helps you find your cycling photos from the bib number! But with a coat on top, it takes some contortions to make it visible.

YouTube is a fantastic platform. But, when it comes to ads, please don't cut off a complex exposé mid-sentence to insert a 15-minute ad about questionable diets or shady financial products. Watching such content without registering or logging in is a horrid experience.

The backlash over Mozilla killing Pocket (the article bookmarking service) seems to be coming largely from Kobo e-reader users — myself included.

Kobo’s integration with third-party web services generally makes for a great user experience, but when one of those services bites the dust...

I’ll be attending @pgconfdev next week.

Not a #postgresql developer myself, but I’m a bit of a systems programming and performance junkie.

Seems like a great opportunity, especially since it’s taking place in MTL.

Message me if you’d like to chat and connect during the conference!
