We encountered an ICE immigration enforcement action on Park Ave. in Minneapolis today. When my colleague Ben Hovland and I arrived there were only a couple observers, but there were dozens blowing whistles by the time ICE agents left without making an arrest.

The feds made their first acknowledgment of what they’re calling ICE’s “Operation Metro Surge” in Minneapolis. The majority on the list are not Somali, though there could be others not listed. Two on the list were detained for DWIs.

The Minnesota Society of Professional Journalists strongly condemns attacks on journalists by law enforcement on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2025, during a federal operation in St. Paul. At least three local photojournalists, clearly identified as press, were injured by less-lethal munitions deployed by St. Paul police officers while covering the story. Multiple journalists on scene were also injured by chemical irritants. Attacking journalists sends a message to both journalists and everyday citizens that their First Amendment rights will not be respected. The First Amendment protects the rights of journalists to provide information that communities need. We demand answers from St. Paul city leadership about why the city's police department attacked our colleagues and a commitment to seeing that this will never happen again. Trump calls for an end to Temporary Protected Status for Somali people in Minnesota.
Unclear how many people that is. It was once around 200, but in 2021 the designation expanded and at the time local advocates said it could be more than 1,000.
Minnesota, under Governor Waltz, is a hub of fraudulent money laundering activity. I am, as President of the United States, hereby terminating, effective immediately, the Temporary Protected Status (TPS Program) for Somalis in Minnesota. Somali gangs are terrorizing the people of that great State, and BILLIONS of Dollars are missing. Send them back to where they came from. It's OVER! President DJT

ICE confirms to MPR News that 14 people were detained on “immigration violations” at Bro-Tex in St. Paul this week.
Statement attributable to a DHS Spokesperson: "On November 18 in St. Paul, ICE HSI and law enforcement partners executed a federal search warrant. ICE arrested 14 illegal aliens on immigration violations, including an individual with past domestic abuse charges and an illegal alien who committed a felony by illegally re-entering the U.S. "Worksite enforcement remains a cornerstone of our efforts to protect public safety, national security, and economic stability while rescuing individuals who may be victims of labor trafficking or exploitation. These operations target illegal employment networks that undermine American workers, destabilize labor markets, and threaten American communities. At a recent worksite operation at a marijuana facility in California, law enforcement rescued 14 children from potential forced labor, exploitation, and trafficking. Authorities also detained multiple criminal illegal aliens including a pedophile. "Additionally, the employment of illegal aliens also incentivizes dangerous and illegal practices, including social security fraud. As we saw during a recent worksite operation in Nebraska, many illegal aliens use stolen social security numbers and identities to unlawfully obtain wages, health benefits and employment authorization. Behind every stolen social security number uncovered in these operations is a real American -mothers, fathers, students, and disabled workers-now facing devastating financial, emotional, and legal fallout."

INBOX: Minneapolis educators schedule strike vote
The Minneapolis Federation of Educators will hold a strike authorization vote after seven months of prolonged contract negotiations with Minneapolis Public Schools. MFE’s next mediation session with the district is scheduled for Oct. 21. Unless a settlement is reached, a strike vote will take place Oct. 23, 24 and 27. “Minneapolis families and educators want the same thing – strong neighborhood schools where every child is welcomed, supported, and inspired to succeed,” said Marcia Howard, president of MFE’s teacher chapter. “MPS can’t afford not to invest in our schools. Our students need real action – enforceable limits on class sizes and caseloads – so educators can give them the attention they deserve.” “For far too long, most ESPs have been living paycheck to paycheck, working two or three jobs just to pay the bills,” said Catina Taylor, president of MFE’s ESP chapter. “We are often the adults closest to our students. We deserve the pay and respect that reflect how essential we are.”
