Alisaie stayed close, posture taut, watching every tremor in Aldra’s fingers, every breath that seemed ready to shape a forbidden name. She knelt beside her, voice sharp yet gentle. “You feel her even now, don’t you?” Aldra’s gaze dropped. “It never fades. She’s inside me. Part of me wants to…” Her hand hovered, trembling. “…give in again.” Alisaie seized her wrist, firm and unyielding. “No. That isn’t you. That’s the chain she forged the moment her magic touched your heart. You are Aldra—the dragon princess who faced gods. Don’t let her break you.” Aldra’s breath hitched, caught between Alisaie’s grounding warmth and the phantom echo of Y’shtola’s touch—comforting, claiming, impossible to ignore. Alisaie pulled her close. “You’re my sister in all but blood. I’ll protect you with everything I have. Whatever Y’shtola feels, it isn’t love anymore—it’s possession. She fears losing you so much she’d bind your will to keep you.” Aldra trembled, torn between safety and the ache whispering Y’shtola’s name. At that same hour in Matoya’s Relict, Y’shtola carved glowing sigils into stone, magic pulsing with her heartbeat. She murmured Aldra’s name like a vow, her love a consuming wildfire. Aldra’s past surrender was proof enough; the spell she wove would bind thought, body, and soul. Only Alisaie stood in her way—a thorn to be removed by illusion, force, or opportunity. As the final glyph flared, Y’shtola whispered, “She resists because of you, Alisaie. But once the spell is cast, nothing will part us.” The Relict’s shadows seemed to lean in, listening to the storm she summoned.

Heat coiled in her chest, sinking low—an echo of Y’shtola’s voice, her touch, her claim. Her hand rose as if pulled by invisible threads, trembling, ready to give in to the craving planted deep within her. She stopped—barely. Her breath shuddered. Her eyes widened. “Aldra.” Alisaie’s voice cut through the haze, steady and sure. She took Aldra’s trembling hand and gently lowered it, her gaze sharp with worry and fierce resolve. “Don’t let her pull you any deeper. That desire isn’t yours. It’s hers. She’s weaving herself into your mind.” Aldra’s throat tightened. “But it feels real. When she holds me… when she whispers… I want it. Even now I can’t stop thinking of her.” Alisaie drew her close, protective and unyielding. “Wanting is not the same as being bound. She may care for you, but her fear twists everything—fear of losing you, fear of being replaced. She’s turning that fear into chains.” Her voice softened. “I won’t let her.” Aldra pressed against her, torn. Her body ached for Y’shtola; her mind recoiled, caught between comfort and the pull of something darker. Far away in Matoya’s Relict, Y’shtola traced another glyph in glowing ink. She couldn’t see Aldra, but she felt her—hesitation, yearning, the tug of a bond half-formed. Proof enough. Her spell would bridge the distance, quiet Aldra’s doubt, and seal what she believed was already hers. Only Alisaie stood in her way—a single, stubborn shadow. Easily removed. Lifting a crystal pulsing in time with her heartbeat, Y’shtola whispered with quiet certainty, “Even now, you yield to me. Soon, you will choose to.” The Relict’s shadows seemed to lean closer, listening.

What she needed now was certainty—a spell that would root itself in Aldra’s soul, binding heart and body beyond any sisterly reasoning or borrowed courage. Matoya’s Relict greeted her with dust, herbs, and ancient wards humming like a pulse. Tomes of forgotten magic lined the cavern walls, ripe with possibility. Here, she would forge the incantation that ensured Aldra was hers—not just in a night’s surrender, but forever. She pictured it: Aldra’s breath trembling, her eyes soft with surrender, her voice breaking on Y’shtola’s name as all resistance melted beneath the weave. A love unending, unshakable—sealed in a single, shattering moment. The vision warmed her, curling her lips into a private smile. But Alisaie’s face intruded, souring the sweetness. The girl was no longer a nuisance but a threat—bold, protective, feeding Aldra doubts that were not her own. She gave Aldra a tether Y’shtola could not sever cleanly. So she would separate them. By spell, by deception, by force—it mattered little. She needed only a heartbeat alone with Aldra to bind her completely. Gridania never crossed her mind. She had yet to learn Aldra sought refuge there, clinging to Alisaie’s comfort. All that mattered now was the work before her. As conjured light flickered across the cavern, Y’shtola opened her tomes, tracing runes in the air. Her voice fell to a low, fervent whisper. She began crafting the spell that would make Aldra hers—eternally.

The bond she had so carefully cultivated—woven with whispers, devotion, spellwork—should have kept Aldra close. And yet the dragon princess had slipped away like a startled bird. Closing her eyes, Y’shtola let memory wash over her: Aldra trembling beneath her touch, yielding with breathless devotion. The recollection curled warmly through her chest, sweet and dangerous. She still craves me. She must. Her body cannot deny what I’ve given her. But another thought coiled beneath it—Alisaie. Y’shtola’s mouth tightened. The girl was clever, meddlesome, too close to Aldra’s heart. If doubt had taken root, it was not Aldra’s doing but Alisaie’s interference. Her grip on the railing whitened her knuckles. “You cannot keep her from me forever,” she murmured to the neon-lit air. “Aldra belongs to me. In time, she will understand—no matter where you hide her.” She searched the city one last time: no trace of Aldra’s presence, no warmth lingering in the aether. Whoever had taken her had chosen well. But Y’shtola knew the world too deeply—and Aldra’s heart even more. Turning sharply, she left the square with renewed purpose. Solution 9 had no answers tonight. But somewhere, Aldra’s heart still beat to the rhythm Y’shtola had awakened. And sooner or later, that rhythm would lead her home.

The air on the bench crackled with fading light, the space where she stood now empty. Far from the city, in the dead stillness of Outer La Noscea, the spell snapped open. Y’shtola staggered, her boots splashing into the chill waters of a lonely lake, its moonlit surface disturbed by her sudden arrival. The night was quiet save for the echo of water lapping against stone. Alone. Back on the bench, Aldra gasped, eyes wide with shock. “Alisaie, what did you do?” she whispered. From the shadows beyond the lanternlight, Alisaie stepped forward, her jaw set. “I did what had to be done. She’s too close, Aldra. Too dangerous.
