If you are interested in social identity and leadership you should definitely think about coming along to the 1st International Conference on Social Identity and Leadership and Followership (ICSILF) in Prague on 20 May 2025 (a day before EAWOP). It's going to be fab. sasp.org.au/2024/11/call...

… Summary

“In increasingly complex, collective, and conflict-ridden settings, identity-based approaches offer a coherent, evidence-based, and empowering way to address the pressing challenges of our time.”

Hard to disagree.

I asked ChatGPT why there has been an upsurge of interest in applied social identity research. It identified 6 factors:

1. Recognition of the Limits of Individualism

2. Robust Evidence from Basic Research

Thanks for the feedback. All the best for your doctorate.

The paper is about understanding clinical presentations of disorder. Autism, as you suggest, is not a disorder. This is a point we endeavour to make clear in the paper and associated work — eg:

We worked on this paper for about 10 years before finally seeing it in print. It connects with issues that have been central to the discipline of psychology for the last century — but which, we argue, fell by the wayside due to a limited understanding of the nature of the self.

Yes, this was a really great meeting — all the better for being small and intimate. It was a great opportunity to connect, and explore the nuances of leadership.

A lovely small conference on Crowds and Leadership at @exeter.ac.uk organized by @metesefauysal.bsky.social @swedishprotests.bsky.social, and @yasemingacar.bsky.social
@alexhaslam.bsky.social's insights were brilliant!
It was lovely to meet everyone, hear about their research and make new friends!

We just saw this on the news, and totally got her vibe. This Canadian election is possibly the clearest example ever of identity leadership dynamics in action.

Thanks. Steve and I are thinking of writing a 20-year retrospective to reflect on the study’s lessons—for leadership, tyranny and health. Our sense is that they’re all still very relevant.

I was fortunate to meet Jimmy Carter when I was a postgrad at Emory U in 1986. It was clear then that he was a passionate advocate for human rights and for the transformative power of education. In the interests of his legacy, I’m glad he left us before Jan 20.

Congratulations to Jolanda Jetten for winning the award for lifetime contribution to social psychology at #SASP2024. Hugely well deserved and a really fantastic achievement.

The talk has particular significance for me because it was at SASP in 1987 at ANU that I gave my first ever conference talk. I also have many happy memories of working at ANU in the 1990s — in an outstanding team of researchers led by John Turner.

Really enjoyed the 7-paper session on Truth and Consequences at #SASP2024. Great contributions from Smithson, Tay, Jiang, Wang, Andrews, Felice, Platow and Reynolds
