Dad to Allison. Husband to Becky. Miss my beagle Barkley every day. But now we welcome Finley! Advocate for Pinehurst Resort. Bandit is a helluva dad.
I don't know. Art matters.

Proud of Allison for pursuing a life in the arts. I'm not sure anything else is as important: alexpodlogar.substack.com/p/experience...
Experiences matter, no matter what someone else might say
In a world where it seems like the accumulation of things is all that matters, I believe that’s just. fucking. wrong.

It took me a long time to feel it was OK to like the music that I like. How did I finally realize this? By the way I said the word, "pecan:" alexpodlogar.substack.com/p/music-and-...
Music – and anything else - should speak to YOU. No one else.
OK, fine, if it speaks to anyone or even everyone else, that’s cool, too. Just don’t like something because your friends do. I did that, and I missed so much. SO MUCH.

Minnesota has been on my mind a lot these last few weeks. That led me to remember Grandma Monson. I am a lot like her:

Grandma Monson was not one to be messed with. And especially not when the Minnesota Twins or Vikings were on TV. I am a lot like her.

I like Cignetti. How can you not?

But the Cignetti Backlash is coming. It may not be this year, but it's coming.

Nearly 30 years ago I was 23 and a small-town daily newspaper sports editor. And in my first year, I made two high school coaches incredibly mad at me. It was horrifying. They both were good lessons: open.substack.com/pub/alexpodl...
The moments I made two high school coaches really, REALLY mad
At 23 years old, I was a small-town sports editor for a newspaper. I learned two giant lessons in my first year. Both were horrifying - and necessary.

. @keithlaw.bsky.social Should my Cubs trade Nico Hoerner? They have no pitching after '26 (beyond Steele and Horton). Trade high on Nico after a strong WAR season, with Shaw as surplus? It's not like they actually pay guys. They (Ricketts) act like they're Cleveland, not THE CUBS.

I hate my team.

I guess there are no holding penalties allowed against Ohio State.

If I can suggest one artist for friends to check out, it would be Brooklyn's Brian Dunne.

A terrific voice, a truly wonderful lyricist and a great guitar player, take this song as your entry and just goooooooooooooo: youtu.be/QpxkvkY7c5g?...

Clearly, the next Lin-Manuel Miranda musical is on James Garfield, right?

"Death By Lightning" is so good.

Springsteen was just sitting on a masterpiece with the "Streets of Philadelphia Sessions" in the 1990s. I reference it at the Halfway House entry here: www.pinehurst.com/news/every-h...

"Waiting on the End of the World" is a stone cold classic.

Thank you to everyone who has said something to me about this. I heard from so many people. I was afraid to post it, thought it might be dumb, and so many of you made it feel worthwhile. Thanks.

What do Pinehurst No. 2 and Bruce Springsteen's music have in common? Nothing. Unless you are an old sportswriter contemplating life at 50.

I turn 50 tomorrow. I'm handling it better.

I've given a gift to myself and written a column - I compare each hole of Pinehurst No. 2 to a Bruce Springsteen song.

Will post it tomorrow.

A teaser:

I'm not sure I can bring myself to post this. I turn 50 on Monday.

And I really wanna post it.

My kid is wonderful and is trying to make it in a world that is impossibly hard. And I am very proud of that. And so I am very proud that she was cast in a show featured at the New York Theatre Festival:

Going to enjoy following @tommytomlinson.bsky.social on here tonight.

Thinking this lame "Devil Went Down to Georgia" thing probably won't sit well as a start.

A few things here:

Bruce's vocal in 1982 might've been his apex. This is ridiculous.

Little Steven's harmony on this is perfect. Absolute perfection.

Bruce's outro harmonica solo is beyond great. Immense power: youtu.be/ULcRPp4KGNw?...
