I'm recovering slowly at this point (compared to Vee who is still absolutely knocked the fuck around), I think I have gotten actual covid in the past because I had FAR too many close calls to have dodged a bullet each time, I just was asymptomatic.

Oh yeah the first time I ever got the covid vaccine it absolutely knocked the SHIT outta me. I try to get it each year but I am permitted to complain about the experience EACH AND EVERY TIME!!

Flashbacks would pass in time however, and reporting one was grounds for the immediate termination of an ARES unit. Whether due to not wanting to lose a valuable tool, or genuine sympathy towards a squad mate, most squads ceased reporting them to maintenance by the end of the war.

In the extreme cases ARES units would experience wholesale flashbacks- remembering people that the soulbearer knew, experiencing brief flashes of a life that wasn’t theirs, or even refusing to acknowledge their designation or nickname and briefly insisting that they were the soulbearer.

Reports only refer to the issues it caused to the Prittanian army vaguely- ARES units requesting maintenance because their internal diagnosis was reporting limbs and injuries that didn’t actually exist, squads reporting their assigned ARES exhibited artistic talents it wasn’t exposed to, etc.

Some dolls would begin to show signs of personality almost immediately upon activation. Usually this was seen as a manufacturing defect, and if severe enough the doll was disassembled and the creation started from scratch.
During the war, standards slipped to speed up ARES unit creation.

A doll is made by placing a soul into a magically primed vessel, and according to official consensus the transition leaves nothing of the original soul bearer. The soul is merely a focusing agent for the vessel. Personality, skillset, lovers- all are wiped.
That doesn’t explain residual memories.

I’ve been wondering why we’ve felt so wired and I’m just putting together it’s because I got my bloodwork done before taking my Adderall so I basically got hit by a higher dosage then usual.

Wow maybe I should ask for my dose to be upped.
