The SCOTUS is leaning towards legalizing “conversion therapy” AKA torture for queer people. There are also two other cases that moved forward: the WH’s request to block the passport injunction (which would bring back the ban on marker changes), as well as cases challenging anti-🏳️‍⚧️ athlete bans.

And a reminder for those who enforce authoritarian rule: “just following orders” will not be a defence once you face the courts for the actions you will have carried out in its service.

There is no line authoritarian governments won’t cross. Legality means nothing to them. They’ll do everything they want, so long as people allow them to, while they crush your rights in the process.
(i.e Ice and the Gestapo kidnapping people with little to no due process)

And while they do that, they’ll pass laws meant to criminalize whatever they please. Further entrenching the fact that legality does not equal morality.
(i.e. the 999 anti-queer bills thus far this year, of which 122 passed)

They’ve since returned to work and the university said that it was for Florence’s safety, but the damage was done regardless of their intentions.

This only served to embolden our white nationalists in Canada who took it as a win.

@floralashes.bsky.social, a teacher part of the faculty of Law at the University of Alberta, was recently suspended after a tweet of theirs calling out the @nytimes.com for their sanitizing of the image of a white nationalist.

UofA needs to apologize publicly for this misstep

It sucks that we’re in a world like this where people can hate you simply for who you are.
Every child deserves to grow up and thrive free from the hate that bigoted adults perpetuate.
I hope to someday see that world in my lifetime.

We can hope that the people put at risk start a legal challenge against UC Berkeley and the gov’t for this.

Judith Butler was among the 160 members of faculty and students who were put on a list given to the Trump administration over alleged antisemitism.
This university was once a center for free speech, now caving in to authoritarian demands and endangering 160 people.

Absolutely. We’ve often gone into hyper-masculine directions in some attempt to deal with trying to find answers for ourselves. And it never works. We always feel worse as a result

Which makes sense since it’s not our hormones that make us who we are. The right ones help us in our transition for those who go the medical route, but whether or not we have more of one hormone or another doesn’t change the fact that we are who we say we are.

Right! It would’ve done nothing beneficial. My levels were in the norm. Adding more would’ve caused health issues and worsened the problem. It makes zero sense

I’ve seen this being shared recently.
First off: f*** this person. They’re not a medical professionnal and are going directly against medical evidence and best-practice.

2nd: extra T is converted into oestrogen in the body. It’s why bodybuilders who take supplements will often grow breast tissue.

Ignorance doesn’t excuse bigotry.

I don’t care if you “don’t understand” trans people. It’s not an excuse to be bigoted.

The world is a complicated mess. I don’t understand everything about it. But I’ll never use not knowing about a group of people to start having opinions detrimental to that group.

Either learn about said group directly from them, or simply shut the f— up.
We are not the reason your life is miserable.
Start looking inwards at your own mess of a life and upwards at the rich people hoarding everything instead.
