The Johnners Trust is extending the window for grant applications to END MAY. If you’re the coach of a Tier Two team or county age-group pathway cricketers who could do with a helping hand towards travel & kit cost, you can apply for them. If you’re the parent of a player, do ask the coach about it:

England legend, former captain and now head coach Charlotte Edwards becomes only the 3rd woman to have their portrait in the Lord’s Pavilion. An honour to say a few words at the unveiling about such a significant figure in British sport. #womeninsport

Edwards is viewed as a one-off. But it’s been put to me that if ECB doesn’t follow their pledge for open recruitment processes, why should Counties when they look to recruit coaches. That’s the trickle down effect. See pt 11 re recruitment all ECB roles: www.ecb.co.uk/news/2463053

Edwards is a top class appointment but it can’t be ignored that ECB broke their own pledge on equity by not running an open recruitment process. It might have delivered the same outcome, but several people in the game have not had the opportunity to express interest by applying.

Full of optimism for Charlotte Edwards as England Women’s Coach. She has set out her stall as a coach with a mentality to win and to hold players to account. It might not be an easy ride for some players; it might create opportunities for others. It might just win trophies too.

Telling the players’ stories is only part of it. They need funding if they’re to ever play together as a group again. They need support for coaching & other life skills too. Pitch Our Future will provide that - but only if sufficient donations come in www.lords.org/refugeefund

If you feel moved to ‘do something’, you can donate to the #Afghanistan women’s cricket team as refugees in Australia. With no recognition from the ICC, their ability to play as a group depends on funds being raised for a 3yr volunteer-led prog lords.org/refugeefund #ENGvAFG

The ECB is at least now following CA’s lead in doing something positive to support the women who had to flee. That, to my mind, was the first thing cricket leaders should have been doing from 2021.

Fitting finish for Australia who have been magnificently relentless - Alana King with the final wicket and a 5-fer at the G. 16-0. The lowest of low points for England, for whom change and a reset is necessary. #AusvEng
