She/Her/They
(read pinned)
After years of stagnating art skills I’ve had enough so here I show how I try to improve-
I’m always open to advice!

You can call me Rose. I suppose for a first post I should clarify what I intend to do: I want to get better at art! So my plan is to simply draw ANYTHING once a day for ~10-15 mins and hopefully keep that up for a whole year! No matter how simple. Join me if you so desire :)

Watching this slowly come together is so therapeutic

It really is life’s finer things that bring true joy

Sat in the train smiling like an idiot while drawing this. Draw more silly things. It’s worth it I swear :)

Spent so much time trying to drag this out of the uncanny valley

Not sure this one went too well

It may not be silly enough

Unironically a very fun way to pass the time on the way to work

I have a questionably large collection of these images and I am so open to receiving more of them

The woman in the reference was so interestingly expressive to me that I tried to draw other poses you’d find such a person in. Quite the exercise id say

Yup I’ll leave it at that

Hmm trying to understand colors in rainy weather before committing to that drawing. I’m seeing that colors generally have a very fine line before they cross it to looking very cool and very warm. Definitely an interesting experience
I’ll likely do another of these next weekend.

Hehe
Although the angle is a bit higher than I intended, when compared to my two other attempts at this piece I’m a lot more satisfied with this take and I may make a full painting from it
Just gotta remember that references are an artists best friend

Mmmmmmm I already love suits as it is so just redrawing different references of them might be a good way of preventing the art skills from rotting during the week and I can’t lie this is funnnnnn

Unfortunately I’ll have to slow down my drawing progress going into the final days of this challenge..
Got a job but at the cost of a 9h workday o7
I can’t afford to sacrifice my sleep schedule for art so I’ll have to share whatever I manage to draw on transit

Mmmmmm yeah i wanted to try a rainy weather look to practice cool colors but I’m honestly not satisfied with the groundwork of this piece so I’ll leave it at this and move on

Maybe it’ll go better tomorrow

Cool-colored version! Definitely not as satisfied with this one as I am with the other

I tried to redraw this with the power of hindsight (and a whole three studies) to give it a more unified color palette :)) I may go for a cooler look as well, would be handy to see different versions of the same painting to apply „temperature“

I went ceramics painting again ^^

It won’t look like this in the final result so this art is a very aggressive form of „trust the process“ because I won’t see the final piece for days.. But I’ll be sure to post it once I have it >:)

Decided to switch up the exercise a bit;
I believe I’d learn more from an opportunity to make and see mistakes so I made the same piece twice, once with a very superficial look at the ref with the rest being up to my intuition and another where- (1/2)

This was definitely interesting

I constantly found myself darkening colors and also definitely struggled to apply the lamplight color correctly.
Yesterday’s drawing also looked too unfocused for my taste so I focused on sharpening a few edges at the end

Not sure I got the colors perfect but it’s definitely more visually appealing than my usual drawings

I should be able to garner a bit of knowledge from just trying to recreate real-life images, I already got some here :)

Complementary contrast!

Uhhhhhhhhh I may still need some practice

I’m not sure if I fully achieved what I wanted but hey it’s still a cute image in the end

I’ll move on to different contrast-types for now, might study light-dark-contrast from reference at some point to get a better idea

Light-dark contrast attempt

One thing I think could use improvement would be a more lazer-focused approach where the lightest-light is truly next to the darkest-dark. I believe the painting looks a bit unfocused otherwise.

A simple attempt at saturation-based contrast in a painting

I feel like I could definitely do better

A fun spin on this would be to reverse the saturation for example or use more colors.
I’ll probably try this type again sometime but not in monochrome to challenge myself
