ALDI has just walked back its promise to go 100% cage-free by 2025, pushing the deadline all the way to 2030.

Dr Jed Goodfellow told 10 News+ why this delay is a betrayal of both Australian consumers and the millions of hens still trapped in cages.

Currently, the decision-making process requires impact assessments of the costs of proposed regulatory measures, but there is no equivalent requirement for an animal welfare impact assessment.

It is for a decision-making process that works for animals, not against them.

Victoria’s animal welfare laws were written in 1986 and fail to reflect that animals are sentient beings who can feel joy, fear, and pain.

Australia’s horse racing industry is riddled with systemic animal welfare issues – from overbreeding and 'wastage' to the cruel use of whips, poor living conditions, and high injury rates.

The racing industry doesn’t want the public to see the brutal reality of racing horses at high speeds.

If the industry is confident its welfare standards are good enough, it shouldn’t need to hide what happens to horses on the track.

A judge recently ruled that whipping a horse off a racetrack amounted to animal cruelty – so why is it still permitted on one?

Horses feel fear, pain, and frustration just like us, yet our outdated laws allow cruel practices.
