You don't have to sound like her.
You don't have to sound like them.

You just have to sound like you, the way you want to sound, without the fear layered on top.

That's what voice training is.
May 7, 2025 at 12:12 AM
When you hear a beautiful voice and think,

"I'll never sound like that."

Don't forget that they practiced once too.

Everyone learns how to use their voice.

You don't hear the years.

If you feel embarrassed to speak,

Remember.

Birds learn to sing by practicing messy, screechy sounds until they match the songs around them.

You are learning to sing.

Voice training can be done quietly.

You don't need to do it loudly every time.

Try "humming" a sentence.

You don't need to talk for this exercise.

This is a very helpful way to practice resonance.

No, people in the other room will not hear.

If they do, just say you are humming to a song 😊

Voice tip:

Smile when you talk about things you love.

You don't have to exaggerate it.

A real smile moves your resonance higher and adds brightness, even if you're not "trying."

You will also trick yourself into feeling more confident!

Week 1: "What even is pitch?"

Month 2: "Okay, I can hit a higher note if I try."

Month 4: "My voice just did that without thinking."

Month 8+: "Sometimes I forget my old voice ever existed."

Keep practicing. You're on a journey.

Breath work is essential when voice training.

Take a deep breath. Count to ten out loud.

Notice how your voice changes when your breath is full, versus depleted.

Practice counting. Say numbers in different voices.

Play with your voice. This is how you make changes.

What has helped you the most with voice training?

I'll start:

Singing in the car and realizing how fun it can be to do silly voices.

I still record myself on a bad day and think, “Ugh, I sound harsh.”

But that's dysphoria playing mind games.

Growth is never linear.

One bad sample doesn't negate months of progress.

Keep trusting the process.

Sometimes we avoid phone calls or voice messages out of fear.

But remember, fear is just a sign that you're pushing boundaries.

Dare to hit “record” or pick up that call.

Proof that you're evolving often hides in the moments you dread the most.
April 22, 2025 at 3:14 PM
Sometimes a single compliment can carry you through a week of dysphoria.

“Ma'am,” “Miss,” or just “You sound lovely.”

Those little moments feel like golden tickets.

They remind us this hard work matters.

If you haven't heard it today, tell yourself.

"You sound wonderful."
April 21, 2025 at 7:11 PM
Dysphoria cuts deep, but it also lights a fire in us to transform.

It's like learning to dance in the dark. You might trip, you might stumble, but you learn new moves.

Keep dancing.

Voice tip:

Warm up with something silly. Try cartoon voices or recite your grocery list like you're a singer. Play is powerful. It tricks your brain into relaxation, letting you experiment without self judgment.

Plus, it's kind of fun. Voice training doesn't have to be miserable.

Think of your voice like a ghost haunting a new house.

At first, it feels out of place. Then, as it moves in, it becomes part of the structure. Eventually, the ghost is so at home you forget it was ever new.

And then the ghost becomes a part of the house, as if it was always there! =)

Record short recordings daily.

Compare only once a week, not every hour.

If you constantly check, you'll lose perspective. Give your voice time to evolve before judging it.

Think of it like letting bread rise. You don't poke the dough every minute, right? (I'm not a baker but... I assume not!)
April 13, 2025 at 12:45 AM
You feel dysphoric.

You take a selfie and delete it.

You're hungry but you don't want to interact with anyone.

You go up to the counter and order food.

"Here you are, ma'am."

She just called you ma'am.
Is it working?

Is your voice training paying off?

It can.

Don't put off voice training.

Want a daily voice drill that works?

– Pick one line
– Say it five different ways
– Record it
– Pick your favorite
– Say that one again

You just voice trained today.

Good job.

Voice tip:

Feel like you’re “faking it”?
That can be a good sign.
That means you’re trying something new.

Sometimes new is scary, but keep in mind muscle memory doesn’t shift overnight.

We all wish it did...

Just keep “faking it" until one day it feels like coming home =)
