Luddites aren't socially conservative, I mean they can be I don't expect the average non technical anti AI artist to have nuance and they may very well be driven by self preservation alone. But it's not about opposing change, it's about opposing harmful applications of new technologies.

It's not resynthesis and inpainting of content that is evil, and if research stayed small scale AI would have been focused on model quality and efficiency. But acting as if the horrific large models we have today are beneficial is like propagandizing about nuclear energy while building a nuke.

Not every technological advancement has had primarily beneficial effects because every single one has been directed by greed and negligence first and foremost.

The horseless carriage has actually been terrible for us specifically because car companies made it so. This doesn't mean buses are evil.

I just did the most unvegan thing of the year by squashing a couple of pests mid fuck. They were touching butts trying to proliferate and I said "not in this they/them household that's too cisheteronormative for my liking" and I implemented lethal contraceptive measures.
