I just adore fall weather when the bugs are gone, it's cool enough to go for a long walk outside without taking a shower afterward & there's often plenty of blue sky. Fun Halloween decorations on a lot of houses, beautiful leaf colors (miss the flowers, though!). Even windy is kind of fun

$175/hr for basic handyman stuff (which, if full time like we work would be $336K/yr!! excluding 4 wks for vacation & sickness). That's not an unusual or high rate. It seems roofing/siding and that type of skilled labor is far higher now.

Ok, back to my coffee. I splurged & got Silk creamer again😊

we really need (maybe required?) education for both teens & adults on basic skills so we can do simple repairs. Not just that, but education on major repairs/maintenance so we know when we're being quoted w/unnecessary stuff & know how things like roofs/siding/plumbing is done.

I see rates like

guessing here). If that's the case, I think that's one thing electing Harris (& actually have a democracy) wouldn't have changed. Materials would likely have been affordable, but the continual rise in the cost of skilled labor isn't something a President can change.

Weird take, but I think that

🧵Setting aside remodeling until next year-it's a mess but it'll keep. Walking again which is so good for arthritis & thinking a lot about my city & wealth distribution & stuff.

I'm guessing people have inherited houses here & a lot are run down because they can't afford upkeep (seriously, really

(I hope that doesn't come across as whiney; I just have a sarcastic sense of humor & I really do crack up when I look out the window. they did get some carpet out & removed it quickly & honestly it's not THAT bad)

It's that wonderful time of the year in between the portable air conditioners and the portable humidifiers (you guys know it as "Fall") 😁

Ahhh, sipping my coffee looking out the window at the neighbor's oven that's been on the porch for weeks, under the beautiful golden leaves of their maple tree

Sorry to hear of Diane Keaton’s death. She was such a fascinating and unique person. I actually just rewatched a Graham Norton show she was on and she was so interested in everyone on with her.

Thought the neighbors were fixing the garage so they could fit the daughter's SUV in for the winter-nope! Selling. The only non-MAGA I'm aware of around me (except nice guy who I think is R but voted against Trump in '24. Grateful he's here). Not a great day as more & more flags go up around town

Every single stitch and even the fabric. There's no way any of us could ever afford anything even close to this quality and beauty today

Was a raccoon, bunny, cat show overnight 😆

Again, I know these clothes were probably worn by the very wealthy, but I just love the beautiful details & am always curious how anyone (wealthy or otherwise) lived in the 18th century. Look at those net bells!!

Is it cake? Or is it an actual dress? The mid #1770s bringing confection to fashion with candy pinks, powder blues and minty greens. It even has little net bells tinkling around the hem, LACMA #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡
A view of the stomacher of a pale pastel shaded 18th century gown embellished with silk floss A detail of the hem of the striped pastel 1770s dress that shows net and ribbon trimmed bells applied to the skirt A full length view of the 1770s dress raised à la polonaise in pinks blues and greens

I definitely need to read it, but need to find it online so I can enlarge it. Can't see the stupid diagrams in the manual. (It does sound like it's online, though). Glad it's not just me. Admittedly, it was at the end of the usual 12 hr Friday & I was tired & easily frustrated. Thanks!

This is so horrible that this is the America we live in. I feel so helpless watching her & want to help her so desperately. All I know to do is to keep protesting & not let MAGAs/GOP sweep all of this under the rug until everyone is treated like meat like this poor lady

It really ticks me off to see a 79 yr old run for an office in Congress. I know she already holds public office so this makes me feel that she knows better & is doing a power grab. She cares nothing about our democracy because any rational human knows we need young energy to prevail over the regime

One more Caturday post. I think I mentioned that co-volunteer was adopting a kitty & got to take her home Sunday. She was worried about her other older cat becoming aggressive(new kitty is young & small). Got to see pics & she's doing great! Just MADE my night. Makes me so happy that they're happy!

beam on me. I pulled over but the "manual" symbol on the knob turned all lights off & the auto symbol stayed on the dash. Researched & it turns out there's an intellibeam something switch on the turn signal stalk and I guess the "auto" on the light switch itself is something else!
Otherwise omg! 😁❤️

EV update-was able to fully charge the Bolt yesterday at Furball! There are a few issues that I hope will pass inspection Tues.
One reason I'm not sure if I have early dementia is I get VERY angry relatively quickly over small things. Could NOT get the auto headlights off & they kept going to high

More Furball Friday/Caturday. See alt text!
These are children's beds in the main sanctuary. When they come in first they're left in a carrier to see how they react to being in a colony. If they're ok, they're released under the beds to acclimate. Of course that means that the top of the beds is fair game for snuggles! I've never seen so many kitties on top before, but we haven't had all those kitty beds up there. This was so adorable & sweet! This is right next to the other beds with an aisle between them. Not as many snugglers. They need more kitty beds up there, don't they??

Still trying to kick this exhaustion, but I think this worked out. We'll make this Furball Friday/Caturday this week! See alt text for more on the kitties in the pics
This guy is an older kitty vs. failure to thrive. More often I've seen failure to thrive (i.e. inbred). There are very few there now & I'm guessing it's because they have a vet onsite now?? This baby is popular on the Furball media channels with his curly tail. He holds his own in the sanctuary!! This baby is in the Meet 'N Greet room for adoptable cats & cats that just need a smaller space. Most of the night she slept & tried not to disturb her. I thought she'd be very scared/shy. She woke up at the end of the night and was the freaking sweetest baby!! I hung with her for a while giving lots of love. She's lost her eye & I think has puncture wounds on her back (but the puncture wounds may have been another kitty in there-can't remember exactly) This little tyke is also in the Meet 'N Greet room. At first I thought he was shy and maybe a fur knot had been shaved or a wound treated. Didn't see his missing leg until he was getting around a bit. They adapt so well. I could tell he was still learning because he was a little awkward, but I'm feeling confident he'll be perky & happy. He didn't run & hide, so I think he'll also love attention soon
alonewon.bsky.social
Well said. Thank you.

Booster. He got a booster, which indicates he is regularly vaccinated, exactly as the CDC *used* to recommend before he put Worm Brain in place to kill off the serfs (us) who aren't in the prime of their lives
alonewon.bsky.social
More a bit later. Long day/night and I’m grabbing a bite to eat. I realized I never took a pic of the whole sanctuary. It’s really big, like a commercial shop or something
alonewon.bsky.social
Can’t tell if this is blurry or just me. They got the Halloween decorations up and I love them!!

GOP in Congress:
Serfs can't do enough low paid labor when they're ill & it costs too much to make them well. It's much more profitable to remove health insurance/healthcare for the serfs*

*Assuming they want to go back to 19th century practice of having "extra" kids to account for the ones who die
