I covered this story extensively for @kineticist.com—six pieces from Nov 13-Jan 23. Disappointed as an indie journalist who covers the pinball community to see @nbcnews.com frame it as an exclusive with no credit.

Nothing’s been right since he left us.
David Bowie's 'Blackstar' Turns 10
When I awoke that Sunday morning, I was so confused. My wife, not much of a music fan, mentioned she’d just read some news about David Bowie. I replied something along the lines of, “Yeah, he just rel...

I don't always know what to do with this stuff other than be mildly frustrated by it but here's a major pinball distributor taking my work (I took the photo, it's even watermarked) and using it for their own promotional materials w/o permission, explicit credit, or compensation.

As someone who much prefers writing boy do I need to hear this sometimes
Don't disagree with the point that most people watch videos and do not read, and reaching them there is probably important, but this is also true. It's cooked books top to bottom. I'm also not going become a video person because I am a writer! And I look like shit! I DON'T WANT TO DO IT!
Every few years there's a bunch of "pivot to video" discourse about how creatives should all start making videos instead of doing text-based work. And every few years we discover again that the supposed "popularity" of video is based on fake audience numbers created by the video platforms.

The new Pinball Roundtable Awards are such BS. Two of the hosts were "100% committed" to the twipys this year until a few weeks ago, when they apparently decided to do their own thing, which seems to be essentially a version of what we had been discussing most of the year.

so far I've only see two people actually upset at the changes we announced for the twipys this year. which either means people don't care about the twipys anymore or people are finally ok with some changes. both are fine outcomes.
