WA space week has kept us all very busy. $25M from the WA State Government to support @icrar.bsky.social astrophysics research and research translation a personal highlight 😊 thewest.com.au/news/wa/lege...
International astronauts get quokka selfies on Rottnest
Compared to being the first Japanese astronaut to take command of the International Space Station, a quokka selfie might seem mundane, but Koichi Wakata was smiling as wide as WA’s famously happy mars...

Congratulations @colourfulcosmos.bsky.social another exciting discovery out and funding from #ARC to support more research into this new class of transients!
Out today in ApJL! Our discovery of the first long-period radio transient with a stellar counterpart:

At least *some* of these objects might be explicable as binary systems!

Astronomers find possible source for mystery radio signals - ICRAR
New data suggests mysterious 'long period transients' could be two orbiting objects, which together create a powerful repeating radio signal.

My #1 tip for aspiring researchers - make sure you invest sufficient time/effort in professional (aka "soft") skills. Discipline knowledge and technical expertise are important, but how you work, interact and communicate with people are also important and become more so the further you progress

Seems to be a bit of an influx of people here lately (wonder why) so for astro community I’m advertising a 3year postdoc to work here in Perth on low frequency radio astronomy. Message me to chat more or pass on to anyone interested 🔭 jobs.csiro.au/job/Perth%2C...

In the last few months I have been lucky enough to visit both #SKA sites. Its great to see construction underway, I can't wait to see the data start to flow.
