"We are making it so hard to age in this country." @asaging.bsky.social 's Leanne Clark-Shirley sums it up well. My story on how the #Medicaid cuts won't just affect those on Medicaid - far from it: bit.ly/47xz8iI for @nextavenue.bsky.social thx to @healthjournalism.org for inspiring the story

'Aging well' generates lots of headlines. I'm as aspirational as the next person. But in the US at least it can make aging seem like yet one more thing we're meant to excel at. Which sounds exhausting. My story for @aarp.org bit.ly/48XvKjs

@planetmoney.bsky.social friendly tip from reporter covering aging: pls don’t use ‘silver tsunami’ to describe older Americans. It’s a negative term that conjures up destruction & perpetuates stereotypes - of which there are already plenty

So sad that I site I've written a lot for - @nextavenue.bsky.social had all but one of its small staff laid off this week. Future uncertain. Budget cuts. It's nuts that as the US gets older, all these resources for people 50 & up - informational and otherwise - are being eliminated.
