My guess is to stop people from using them as a burst weapon, or using them on buddies with siege stabilizer, effectively negating the weakness of that system

The range to me is definitely the limiting factor, that insane radius is heavily limited by how you can position it to avoid snagging allies.

Although I've also thought it's silly that smart/seeking weapons in lancer don't have IFF, from a realism point not balance
