You know we're happy to have you anytime. 😁

P.S. Don't forget to check in on the slack stuff. I think you're on to something there.

Haven't seen her on here in a while. Maybe the tag will say "hi" and let her know we're thinking about her?
amylhampton.bsky.social
And you!! Hope you have a great week! Thank you for making our conversations brighter and richer when you drop in! We appreciate you!

And it's all "rented ground"... I wish I knew what a good answer was. Way more than what a 200+ character thought can handle - especially BEFORE lunch. Hungry me is kinda worthless TBH.

I remember her from the good ol' Twitter days of the "before times!" Good to see that she's kept with the planners/ calendars. It was so fun to see her process grow and business bloom! Tell her HI from us here!!

Social media is a mess (IMO) right now. Too many platforms. Too much manipulation by the algorithms. Too much AI slop and troll/bot/misinformation.

Yeah - I'm with ya on the biweekly thing. It's hard to remember which week is THE week and then it seems like forever until you get plugged back in again. I like the consistency of a weekly meeting even of folks can't always be here.

We use Wave for our accounting. The rest of it is kind of a mish-mash of planners and notes using a splash of GTD and some integrated calendars to keep deadlines.

And remember friends -- office supplies are a necessary and predictable business expense*.

Yes! Many times this can be a slower time for people as they are busy with family or holidays or just waiting to start fresh in 2026. Calendaring deadlines. New year filing setups. So much admin can get pushed off until "later"... and then it's an emergency or a mess.

There's that part for sure. The slower time also is a good time to work on tax documents, filing and stuff like that. Catching up on admin so you don't have to over the holiday season or as much in January when people are raring to go with all their new year vigor.

I would think so. It's an offshoot of the 12week year for me. I'm not a strict adherent of 12WkYr, but I like taking the time to get some focus/clarity on things. Also gives me a chance to use my planners and stationery. (ALWAYS important!!)

a2) Goal setting is important. This year was supposed to be more of a pivot, and it's been some gymnastics trying to deal with *all-the-things* in flux. It's as much about prepping to put this year to bed as it is getting ready for 2026.

Q2: What does your year-ahead planning look like? Do you check on specific metrics? Review key documents or files? Make a list of goals? Journal about it?

Please give our #FreelanceFriends ideas for running their own businesses.

Hello Amy! Always good to see you here! Thanks for joining us!! 😁

a1) Definitely! Although as a solo biz, it's maybe not as systematic as one would need for a bigger operation. The process is similar to my other quarterly reviews and forward planning. Also gives me a chance to set up the new systems for next year before I need them in Jan.

Let's get started! Q1: Do you set aside time during Q4 to evaluate your business and plan for the upcoming year? Do you do a business audit? Why or why not?

It is. We've been having fun with the cameras lately even though I've not worked up any of the pics yet. Need to get on that. They're no fun just in the camera.

Would Karen Kelsky (The Professor is In) be someone to ask? She might be a good resource for this question.

I still find it so interesting that you live in my hometown. I know EXACTLY where that intersection is. (Bottom end of the M'side Loop.)
