Flash floods are surging across the country this summer with more than 3,600 warnings issued already in 2025.

Experts say the main causes are:
* Record-high humidity
* A slow-moving jet stream
* Rising ocean temperatures

The area burned in the Canadian 2025 fire season has hit 5 million ha. Third active fire season in a row that combined has burned 7% of the Canadian forest. Currently we have 346 fires out of control (192 monitored out of control (OC) and 154 OC that are being actioned) so expect the number to rise.

In historically frequent-fire forests of the Sierra Nevada (California), low- and moderate-severity ("beneficial") fire treated ~17% more area than all other treatments combined. Given limited resources, this is a crucial aspect of future planning
