We still have several ECR bursaries for the Foldamers meeting (see foldamers2025.com to register) which pays for conference fees, travel and board! Applicants need to be from or based in the UK but there is still a student rate for those who are not. #chemistry #conference #foldamers #supramolecular

A niche #Chemistry #ChemSky #ChemEd summary, assigning stereochemical descriptors to axial & equatorial chirality. I know some argue these phrases are meaningless, but they're terms used by synthetic chemists. I know others just hate stereochemistry (you weirdos)! Hope it is useful (& corrected)
A 1 page summary giving a quick overview of the rules for assigning stereochemical descriptors to helical and axial chirality. There are five boxes. The first gives brief highlights of the CIP rules. The second looks at helical molecules. The third looks at using a helix to describe a conformation (I know, why would you do such a thing? It's horrible, but I've seen it in the wild). Box 4 is using R/S for axial chirality while Box 5 treats the axis as a helix and uses P/M.

We are deeply saddened to share that our friend and colleague Professor Amos B. Smith III has passed away. Amos joined Penn in 1973 and was a mainstay in our organic chemistry division. He recently celebrated 50 years of service to @upenn.edu @pennsas.bsky.social.

I started this Minecraft cathedral a few years ago, but progress has been slow because I only play it with the boychild and he only ever wants to play in extreme survival mode rather than this creative mode. But it’s getting there. Only the transepts and ambulatory to go…. Maybe another 2 years?
