My old band Break of Dawn put out a record 25 years ago on One Day Savior Recordings.

@robertsesquire included it in @lambgoat.bsky.social's 25 in ‘25 series series.

Here’s us around 2000 and a link to the article.

Bob Shireman latest Chronicle piece warns of what we might expect of Linda McMahon's USDE in the upcoming 90 days for higher ed.

He suggests two possibilities: 1) a wilder west for accreditation--more accreditors and competition; and 2) Christian Nationalism...

Mentally preparing myself to serve on an accreditation review team.

The Heritage Foundation says it’s a “cartel” and I hope this time I’ll get in on some of riches—because so far, all I’ve gotten at these things are Panera sandwiches and mediocre coffee.

The @chronicle.com asked 59 colleges under investigation by ED how they would respond if they got a list of demands like Columbia. Nobody would answer the questions, and one university (Wisconsin) called them "ridiculous."

We'll find out how they actually respond soon enough.
We Asked Colleges How They Would React to Demands From Trump. They Wouldn’t Say.
The possibility became more real on Friday, when Columbia University agreed to make changes in response to a letter from the Trump administration.

The USDE is about half the size it was two weeks ago and it's expected that there will be an executive order to close it today. Again, it would need 60 votes in congress to legally close the department.

The tiniest red carpet in a puddle for Rubio. 🤣
I love Canadians.
Look at the length of the red carpet that was rolled out for US Secretary of State Rubio in Canada. 😂😂😂

The Trump administration is investigating at least 60 colleges for “antisemitism,” which critics say is mainly about squashing pro-Palestine activism.

“Colleges have an obligation to stand up and protect their students,” says former Education Department official Tariq Habash.

CALLS ARE WORKING - it has bought us precious time, but we NEED to keep the pressure up.

Tomorrow is the cloture vote.

KEEP CALLING: (202) 224-3121 ☎️☎️☎️

Tell your Dem Senator to vote NO on Cloture and NO on the Republican spending bill.

Do NOT assume your Senator will be good on this. Trust me.
🚨 Everyone needs to call their Dem Senator right now. They are starting to cave.

Tell them:
1. Vote NO on Cloture
AND
2. Vote NO on the Republican spending bill.

Don’t let them pivot to reconciliation. GOP doesn’t need Dem votes on that and they know it.

TODAY is the showdown.

The cuts to the USDE is problematic for many reasons and the department was understaffed before this administration.
ICYMI | Education Department Lays Off Nearly Half of Staff

McMahon said the reductions are a “significant step toward restoring the greatness of the United States education system.” Critics say they are reckless and will lead to chaos and confusion. #HigherEd #EDUSky #AcademicSky bit.ly/3Fpzbmf

Still waiting on an executive order to close the Dept of Ed, an action the president lacks the legal authority to accomplish:

Trump reportedly set to order dismantling of Education Dept.
The long-awaited directive comes as the agency is preparing to lay off likely hundreds of employees and just days after Secretary Linda McMahon took the reins.

It's Monday evening and I'm teaching higher ed finance, so of course something is happening.
SCOOP: Now that Linda McMahon is confirmed/sworn in as secretary, Trump will be imminently issuing an executive order eliminating the Department of Education.

I’ve obtained a draft of an email that McMahon will be sending to staff re: the EO and the department’s “final mission”.
