Just had to look up Torfaen's council tax leaflet from last year and I'm getting all nostalgic for Ceefax.

Looks like Father Ted's latest bid to get off Craggy Island - this time by becoming President of Ireland - has failed.

Having spent a chunk of the weekend writing Bath up for this week's Previews, I now want to go back to Bath. I've only been once before and that was decades ago.

There's a story in this week's Previews about how the 1881 Wigan by-election was voided because the winning candidate had provided free food and drink to starving striking miners and their families. Parliament left the seat vacant for well over a year as punishment for corruption.

There's a by-election in North Northants at the moment (Lloyds & Corby Village) following a racist councillor's resignation

Reform UK's candidate, Lee Duffy, was reported by the local Reform team as having provided a "generous and tasty buffet" to residents at a recent meeting, on the ward's border

We had our first post election branch meeting on Tuesday evening. A well attended event where you, the residents got to ask councillors (Cllr Eddie McDonald, Cllr Graham Cheatley, Cllr David Donnolly and Cllr Lee Duffy) questions and received answers in return. Our other local councillors were unavailable due to council commitments or away.
A big thank you to Cllr Lee Duffy who kindly put on a generous and tasty buffet.
The Branch will be holding an election for the Board shortly. I want to encourage people to get involved, to put yourselves forward for positions on the board, members to turn up and vote. Democracy and member involvement starts at the branch level.
We can no longer be a party of disruptors, we must be a party of governance.

There is some suggestion that RUK are in fact turning out nonvoters af these kind of contests. The turnout in the Ellesmere Port ward was 41%.
