Beautiful NPR story about recent SA tour by the UMich Symph Orchestra. It's long (45 mins) but captures the experience accurately. I am also quoted extensively at several places in ways that mostly portray me accurately. It was a moving and transformative experience to be part of this tour.

Today, I am proud both of being South African and American. There is good in both of these places, and this exemplifies the best of both. We have to engage and be together. That is how humanity moves forward. Two parts of my life coming together in the best possible way.

Just gave a talk to home department titled: "Language, Place and Identity in Post-Colonial Societies: Three Case Studies from Afrikaans." I feel like I have come full-circle in the last third of my career. My research has taken me back to my birth country and to the complexities of S Afr society.
