People's world view is skewed towards reflecting their surroundings.

I don't think she sat down. Looks like she just leant onto the desk.

📣 Germany's close to reversing its opposition to mass surveillance & private message scanning, & backing the Chat Control bill. This could end private comms-& Signal-in the EU.

Time's short and they're counting on obscurity: please let German politicians know how horrifying their reversal would be.

We are alarmed by reports that Germany is on the verge of a catastrophic about-face, reversing its longstanding and principled opposition to the EU’s Chat Control proposal which, if passed, could spell the end of the right to privacy in Europe. signal.org/blog/pdfs/ge...

Atproto is beautiful. Instead of users giving their data to apps, the apps just borrow it.

It's obvious when you think about the alternatives:

- blue: boring/straight
- red: danger/angry
- green: hidden agenda
- yellow: accessibility issues
- orange: Cloudflare copy

The only colour left is purple.

Look on the bright side - this might just end in all digital information being lost in some kind of "grey goo Internet" and we can all go back to sitting around fires with friends, playing German board games, and frolicking in wheat fields until dusk.

I'm on the same journey, Dan.

Cloudflare Workers are a great fit. Nodejs compatibility by default, easily use SQLIite (even one per user via Durable Objects). Very cheap. Room to expand if required.

What is the best "guide" for an aspiring indie developer?

Is there a search engine for at proto entities yet?

The behaviour at the Ryder Cup was really embarrassing, and I'm not even American.

"vernacular" for me.

I'll post this again in case there are some people who didn't see the previous one:

You can make HP Sauce like the *old* HP Sauce by adding a tablespoon of malt vinegar and a dash of chili sauce.

I'm offering this information out of the kindness of my own heart. Enjoy your bacon sandwich.

It blows my mind that we will mine ore, extract aluminium, then process it into thin sheets, just to cover leftover lasagne so that fies don't get to it.

I feel like this is one of those things that future generations will look back on as being sheer lunacy.

What if some client-side browsing features were part of the web platform?

Direct CSS reflection of URL state, snappy pending/optimistic UI, URL-to-scroll-snap binding, and some basic same-document navigation use cases, with JS being only an option.

Maybe you were channeling the ancients and their thinking caps. It was a cap with a point (like a birthday hat), where the point is above and behind the head. They found that focussing on that point helped them to think more clearly.

What does Ultracite bring to the table? Doesn't Biome already replace those two?

You can just use none of them to improve your quality of life.

We used the same trick on the chess.com chessboard to force code into the next frame.

That's fair, but equally it's difficult when those with the expertise are unwilling to even acknowledge the problem.

It's not good enough to just be fanatically liberal about freedom of speech and freedom of access, because it is those things that have caused the current problems.

I get what you're saying, but what I don't hear is people offering alternative real solutions to the mental health crisis that social media has caused amongst the young. And perhaps even more so with the advent of LLMs.

What with the GPT-5 letdown and the MIT report, it really does feel like we're at the "Peak of inflated Expectations" in the Gartner Hype Cycle.
