I am a couple months from my defense & running & knitting keeps me sane 🧶 🏃🏼‍♀️

We often think when we feed animals we're doing an unqualified good.

But are we? Feeding squirrels peanuts, it turns out, changes their very SKULLS, giving them weaker bite force. www.sciencenews.org/article/hand...
Hand-feeding squirrels accidentally changed their skulls
When fed peanuts, red squirrels in Britain developed weaker bites — showing that food supplements to threatened animals could have unintended side effects.

Most zoo animals live long lives due to individualized care. However part of this care is controlling breeding. Is this sustainable? Should animals breed naturally in zoos? What happens to surplus animals?

See below on how breed-and-feed programs in zoos may improve animal welfare & conservation 🧪
It's been 10 yrs since Marius the giraffe was controversially culled by Copenhagen Zoo. So, what's happened since?

Many zoos limit reproduction to avoid surplus animals and public backlash. We argue this approach fails the conservation & education mandate of zoos 🧵: www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...

Meta is dropping fact-checking to avoid anti-conservative bias- but is there actually evidence of bias?
We this test empirically & find that conservatives

So many good points in here.

When women begin to enter fields, first people cheer the pioneers. Then women do it more...and men get nervous.

And then men run.

And then they declare they NEVER wanted to do it anyway. Education is for GIRLS. celestemdavis.substack.com/p/why-boys-d...
Why aren't we talking about the real reason male college enrollment is dropping?
We would rather talk about literally everything else.

We could be losing a lot of scientific evidence due to it being published in non-English languages. Also likely to be reflected for species with no English language evidence.
An incredibly important topic from Tatsuya Amano.
