6: Create a project plan 🗃️

Writing a paper is a project that can seem ever-expanding. Create a project plan so you can better control the time frame and you'll know when your paper will be finished.

5 Cherry-pick 🍒

Here's a secret: You don't need to start writing your paper with the Introduction. It's better to get some momentum with a section you find easy to write!
January 11, 2026 at 12:45 PM
4: Mix it up 💃

If you have started to associate negative feelings with your writing software or location, try a different one! A lot of researchers like Word, Scrivener and LaTeX. Even using pen and paper or going to your fav coffee shop may get you out of a writing funk.
January 11, 2026 at 12:45 PM
3: Develop your story 🎬

Before you attempt to write any complete sentences, sketch out the story you want to tell in your paper. Doing this will also make sure that your narrative is coherent in your final paper!
January 11, 2026 at 12:45 PM
2: Outline 📋

The blank page will get filled with life quickly once you create an outline for your article. Writing the paper is then just filling in the gaps.
January 11, 2026 at 12:45 PM
1: Mind-dump 🧠

If you don't get started on your paper because you can't think of the perfect way to phrase sentences, do a mind dump: Just write down everything that's in your head right now.

Does looking at the blank page fill you with dread? 😬Getting started is arguably the hardest bit of the whole writing process.

Researchers, remember who your readers are: other humans.

AI doesn’t write for humans — it writes for patterns.

Your job isn’t just to fill pages.

It’s to communicate insights that move your field forward.
