And St David's Church, Llanthony Priory. Said to have been built on site of a 6th-century monastic cell.
During the Middle Ages the building was the Priory's infirmary and it was only established as a stand-alone church in the 16th century.

Recent visit to the wonderful Llanthony Priory, a house of Augustinian canons established in the early 12th century.
Love Gerald of Wales' description: "the mountains rising above almost touching heaven" and the site "abounding with deer feeding aloft, at the extremity of the lofty horizon." 😍

Some images from yesterday's @pilgrimtrust.bsky.social event in London. It included some fascinating panels of speakers, my all-time favourite pilgrim speaker (Satish Kumar), and an improvised ritual at Little Wormwood Scrubs!
The natural environment, ritual, and inclusivity were recurring themes.

From our recent visit to the Brecon Beacons: Llangorse Lake and the Welsh Crannog Centre.
The Crannog (c.916 AD), pictured in the 2nd image, is unique to Wales. Crannogs (manmade islands) are usually associated with Scotland & Ireland.
Llangorse Lake is the largest natural lake in south Wales.

The church of St Cynog, Defynnog.
As well as the location of the Defynnog Yew, the church of St Cynog, Defynnog, has a font with Runic and Lombardic inscriptions (described as 'the only example of its kind in Wales') and a pre-Norman water stoup.

2/2 ... It's hard to capture a sense of the Defynnog Yew on camera, not just because of its vast size but also because - when you're among its branches - you realise it's not just a tree (or two trees as the case may be) but a whole micro-world (a mini forest) in itself.

The tree is sometimes claimed to be the oldest yew in Britain and dated to the Iron Age.
