Some messages are printed on 18-by-24-inch yard signs or smaller placards; others are drawn ornately by hand on paper or written in chalk. The few who will talk about the signs they created say the urgency of the moment compelled them to act.

Today I saw the ribbon cutting of Yeleen Beauty Makerspace. It’s a manufacturing facility in Ward 7 from the mind of Rahama Wright, founder of Shea Yeleen. She sources shea butter from Ghana and I’ve been following her for a story about how this DC business is affected by tariffs. Stay tuned.

Attn D.C. residents: Have you seen signs or memorials like this anywhere around the city? Please DM me. I’m trying to locate as many of these as I can.

These were being given out at a Metro station this morning

While I was in Columbia Heights, I heard someone shout that ICE was at 14th and Perry Street. So I walked up and caught the end of a scene there. Two women told me a young black male had been detained. This type of reaction has been showing up a lot on social media in the past couple weeks.

I saw residents in Columbia Heights tonight meet at an intersection at exactly 8:00 p.m. to bang on pots and pans as a form of protest. Just days earlier, they witnessed two people being detained by authorities.

They took 2 people off the bus. Couldn’t hear what they were removed for. But you could definitely feel the tension among everyone.

Some of the same authorities I saw on social days ago are back at RI Metro station. That video showed some vitriolic responses from people at the station. Definitely seems like this is a location they’ll return to. I’ve seen little here beyond fair dodging in my years commuting to/from work.

The DOJ “has asked three federal judges who oversaw parts of the Epstein and Maxwell cases to release grand jury transcripts amid the public furor over the Trump administration’s decision this year not to release any more information from the Epstein files.”

New York judge denies release of Epstein-related grand jury transcript
The ruling, following a similar rejection by a federal judge in Florida, cites the secrecy of grand jury proceedings.

Went to see the movie with my brother. He’s a big F4 fan and loves Galactus. I couldn’t resist, and got him this insane🍿bucket. It was worth every penny just to see his face.

Oh, and I loved the movie. Thought it was pretty solid.
My brother holds the Galactus popcorn bucket.

Another great Kent Babb piece. This time he dives into the legendary Mets folly: Bobby Bonilla Day (🎁 link).

Don’t miss the tidbit from Jose Canseco’s rep toward the end 😂

The player and the life insurance agent behind Bobby Bonilla Day
When the Mets wanted to buy out the outfielder’s contract 26 years ago, Dennis Gilbert came up with a plan the team is still paying for.

Beuchert’s Saloon is closing. I have some history with this place that I may detail later. But for now just pouring one out for a really beautiful, imaginative restaurant that brought a lot of joy to the area. You may find me there later this week having a cocktail before they close.
